Silent Running - Shades of Liberty CD?

I came across this

http://www.discogs.com/Silent-Running-Shades-Of-Liberty/release/5011756

Anyone know if it's legit? is it just a needledrop?

Apparently released by an Australian outfit called Lost 80's.

This is the one album that I really would like to get on CD. I did contact Cherry Red about releasing it and they said they get quite a bit of interest in it so they might look into it but that was over a year ago and still nothing.

Looks like the real thing...but who knows, there is another australian record company called fruitgum; but all their releases are bootlegs

Looks very much like a bootleg to me. Only one release so far coming from this label.

I was "lucky" enough" to buy this cd today.

My first thought:

no tracklisting on the cd or cover
seem to be ripped from the vinyl, you can clearly hear the ticks/pops ...
not the best sound quality

if anyone needs more info....

It's a bootleg, read that second review on Amazon.uk:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Shades-Liberty- ... B00EUNTHZW

Also, any word if Cherry Red picked it up for re-issue? Someone on the facebook page mentioned but it's dated back in 2013:

I have a other version on cd. It has 13 tracks: 9 tracks from the album and 4 extra tracks with instrumental "film/big band/Disney" music.

I kinda figured it was a bootleg. I couldn't see any mention of EMI anywhere and I'm sure they still own the rights.

I guess the guy with the FB page gave up. I just sent Cherry Red another email to see if they ever looked into giving it a legit release. We'll see what they say.

This is an album that deserves to be repressed on CD. :D

Well I got a reply from Cherry Red

quote

Many thanks for your enquiry to Cherry Red. Yes we have applied for a license to reissue the album but we have yet to receive a decision from the rights owner.
Hopefully in the coming months we'll get a positive response.

With best wishes
Tim @ Cherry Red

Hope they get a response and get this out before I go into retirement.

Hello, i was the person behind the facebook group trying to get this released on CD via cherry red/pop, going back to 2013 i've been pestering them to get this released, i even gave them a tracklist example (see below) originally over the years i was dealing with Tim Madgwick and at the end i was dealing directly with Matt Bristow, as stated above they were looking at licensing it but then all went quiet, in the last few weeks i re-initiated contact for an update and was told by Matt Bristow 'Unfortunately this is not one we are looking to move forward – sorry.'

When you look at some of the obscure, bargain bin dross they do license and release it is utterly frustrating that they do not see the potential of this release.

I don't know where i go from here, i've reached out to Edsel/demongroup and also emi/parlaphone, even suggested just releasing it digitally with all the edits, remixes and b-sides but so far i have had no response.

If people could keep asking cherry red for it to be released it might make them reconsider

https://www.cherryred.co.uk/contact/

https://www.cherryred.co.uk/meet-the-team/

i'm thinking of going through this company who distribute cherry red

https://www.propermusicgroup.com/meet-the-team/

but if anyone has any suggestions please share

there are two unofficial/bootleg versions available the lost 80's one isn't very good at all, there is another which is just a straight reproduction of the album with no extras, if anybody wants to check it out here's the link:

I guess we're going to have to wait till the 12th of never comes before we see this on CD. Oh well at least I have a pretty decent mp3 of the album.

What manages to get released is really down to rights issues. Often the rights holder simply can't be bothered. Interested parties are left shaking their heads.
