Hello friends,
Allmusic's James biography implies that 'Sit Down' was a non-album single, later re-recorded with a "baggy" beat to turn into a Madchester-era smash.
"On their new label, James released the moderately successful "Sit Down" and the live album One Man Clapping, which climbed to number one on the indie charts. . . Gold Mother finally became a breakthrough success in the spring of 1991, when a re-recorded version of "Sit Down" -- now boasting a contemporary baggy beat -- climbed to number two on the U.K. charts and became a staple on U.S. modern rock radio.
[Gold Mother was reissued in 1991 after a re-recorded version of "Sit Down" became a hit. "Sit Down" and "Lose Control" replaced "Crescendo" and "Hang On," but the baggy beats of the new songs sat uncomfortably with the sprawling, anthemic rock of Gold Mother.]
The Gold Mother version (maybe it's different outside the US?):

James:The Singles version sounds the same in arrangement/bagginess, just louder:

I haven't been able to find anything labeled Sit Down (original) or Sit Down (1988? 1989?). Not even on the totally over the top box set they released a while back. Please let me know if I'm missing anything obvious. Thanks for reading.
