Hunters/Collectors 7" 'Throw Your Arms' on any compilation?

Hunters/Collectors 7" 'Throw Your Arms' on any compilation?

Hello friends,

I've always liked 'Throw Your Arms Around Me' (https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/throw ... =745386004) as a sort of guilty pleasure, quintessential Aussie bar sing-a-long.

But I was browsing through the bands 1984 album The Jaws of Life for the first time and I realized, hey, I totally like this era of the band without reservation! It's wiry, more post-punky/new wavey.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/the-j ... d747860956

The original version of 'Throw Your Arms' dates to that year, but the 7" 1984 release on Discogs shows a runtime of 3:29. I haven't been able to find a version close to that runtime on iTunes or, erm, the darker corners of the web. I might take a stab at buying the real thing, but I was hoping to hear it first.

Anyone know of a commercial re-release of it?

Thanks for reading!

The original single version can be found on the Hunters & Collectors "Horn Of Plenty" boxset - https://www.discogs.com/Hunters-Collectors-Horn-Of-Plenty/release/1960664 (look for disc 14 'Spare Parts').

Also, as far as I can tell, it's also on the "Triple J 40 Years Of Music" compilation - https://www.discogs.com/Various-Triple-J-40-Years-Of-Music/release/7753857

Sorry, neither of those are particularly cheap options, but maybe it's available as an individual track from an online store somewhere...

For what it's worth, I think it's the best incarnation of that song (and they had a fair few stabs at it! :)) - the song itself was always considered somewhat as an instant classic, but they never quite nailed a recording of it that resulted in the commercial success that it deserved. That said, it's continued to grow in stature over the years and the amount of times it's now been covered is staggering.

Thank you, kind sir! You Discogs skills are better than mine.

Another page says the 1984 release is actually a live take? The writer seems a bit lukewarm on it:

The first version of Throw Your Arms to surface was a very raw very on the live album “The Way To Go Out”. It often seems hard to imagine that this extremely raw song went on to become as popular as it is. This version is never played on radio and generally not that well known about. If you are new to Hunters and Collectors, this is NOT the version to start with. Most people who are not fans do not think much of this version at all.

Throw Your Arms was popularised with the 1986 “Human Frailty” version, a more refined but still decidedly raw guitar driven pop song. This version did not chart that well (peaked at number 49) but would have contributed a lot towards sales of “Human Frailty” and is still played on radio today. Modern rock stations prefer this version to the extremely refined 1990 version.

The band had another shot at the song with the release of “Collected Works” in 1990. This version is a very refined version with a much improved vocal. While this suits it to pop radio, it lacks a bit of the appeal of the 1986 version in that it is not so raw.

Micmij, is this the correct version? It matches the title of the live album, but it's certainly longer than 3:29:

Thanks!

No, that's not it - that's the live version from the live album/video "The Way To Go Out". I can't seem to find that original single version on YouTube (don't think they ever made a video for it)...

(Sorry for the slow reply, been away for the past week).
