Various - Close to The Noise Floor - SOLID COMPILATION

Various - Close to The Noise Floor - SOLID COMPILATION

Postby anemiccinema » Fri May 20, 2016 5:30 pm

Close to the noise floor is an awe inspiring collection of post-punk -proto-synth noise that will impress even the most enduring of 80's electronic collectors.
There are surprises everywhere in this well curated er um shall I say manifesto. that pins down the genre in a lifetime.
Electronic music is my passion and this collection threw many exciting tracks at you. When I saw Gerry and the Holograms on the tracklisting I was sold as findinga digital copy of that track has been a scratchy absurd adventure.
The tracklisting of this 4 CD set speaks for itself - odd electronic from the early 80's UK.
Think Elephant Table meets Some Bizarre meets Life at the Top.
For me CD 3 was the best treat here-- which is comprised of an entirely instrumental selection(save for some garbled processed indistinguishable
throat tones from Ron Berry) but the mysterious hauntingly hypnotic Adrian Smith - "Joe Goes to New York" floored me..think Demdike Stare/ John Carpenter/Clock DVA collaboration howdid I miss this track in the 80's-
To package these amazing tracks together they are put in a CD Book style with full informations on the artists + pictures and artwork.
This is a true piece of art and no doubt my favorite release of 2016.

Just received this a few days ago and only finished one CD so far.

Would have been perfect if the stereo mix of the original Circus of Death was included, instead of Being Boiled. Oh well..

yipyipcoyote agreed-- in fact Human League is one of my all time favorite bands and I thought "Being Boiled" was a weak selection to put in this compilation.
I would have preferred they had put in a track from The Future - like "Dance Like a Star" or "Looking for the Black Haired girls"...
The other thing is that The Blancmange rarity they selected from Irene and Mavis EP-- they should have gotten a better copy as it is an obvious Vinyl transfer since you hear the static pops etc--- though again all these can be easily overlooked as it is a very solid collection and the surprises are pure treats... Hope you like Disc 3 as much as I did.

Any compilation that contains the Instant Automatons is fine with me.
