For those interested, Vinyl 180 begins their deluxe vinyl reissue program for the classic early 80s New Wave band Altered Images in late November 2016, continuing through to next year. The band hails from Scotland and are known for their chart hits: Happy Birthday, I Could Be Happy, See Those Eyes and Don't Talk To Me About Love, among others.

There will be a total of 6 different packages released. This includes all 3 albums released individually with a bonus 7" on colored vinyl containing tracks/versions not on the LP. Following later will be double LP editions of all including a bonus LP of B sides and Extended or Alternate versions (none of the colored 7" tracks will be repeated on the doubles).

Rubellan Remasters has been fortunate enough to be involved, providing the audio remastering for 5 of the 6 planned packages and ensuring all period rarities are included. See details of the first of these releases at their website:

Love the band. Glad to see the interest. Zero interest in vinyl but appreciate the work!

As a general matter I simply don't understand why vinyl has become a "thing". Also they always seem to be limited editions threatening you to buy now or buy later on eBay for a huge markup. The commercialism is offensive. Yes vinyl sounds better but we are over that by now.

Oh and the bonus disc is red vinyl wow how exciting.

I will say that the stuff this website is offering features quality artists and non ridiculous prices.

That said, the only vinyl I buy now are the issues which include a CD.

Yep, better to wait for the cassette reissue. Cool that they're doing expanded editions. There's a couple of Thompson Twins double vinyls that I didn't even know existed (not that I follow vinyl, since I've been there and done that).

I do admit that I wish these were going to be CD reissues. Since that albums have never been on CD in stellar quality, it would have been a dream come true to ensure it's done right. I would like my brand new remastering to be available on CD someday but I don't see it happening. I buy new vinyl for the packaging most times, and even the color. I did try to convince the label to make more of these Altered Images releases colored vinyl, rather than just the 7", but they explained how much the cost of manufacturing plays into it. And I did confirm with the other label I work with, Futurismo, that anything aside from standard black vinyl can almost double the cost of manufacture. And let's not even get into the cost of gatefold sleeves, ugh... My dream would have been to have these on various colored vinyl in a deluxe gatefold but it appears not to be economically feasible. I am happy to have gotten involved, especially with what Sony were proposing. And with Altered Images being one of my absolute faves, it will be nice to see my remastering credits on 5 of the 6 of these packages. Most new vinyl is marketed to the collector's market, so they are often limited editions that can sell out within a few months to a few years. I do have a little stack of new vinyl and it is nice to have and to hold now and then, as long as it's done right and looks good. I did have The Cars colored vinyl box set but it went back. I could not believe how poor quality the LP sleeve scans were, especially the debut. Plus, the colors were supposed to coincide with the outer box and they didn't. Now that was a shoddy job.

Are there going to be download codes with these reissues ? I'm looking forward to getting the correct versions...and the full length 12" DTTMAL.

Irritating to the max! I already have all of the vinyl. Don't want any more. What I do want is correct CDs but I guess that'll never happen.

Hey, I would like proper CD versions as well, but this is a vinyl reissue label. If a label wants to do proper deluxe CD versions, I will happily assist. Oh, and Vinyl 180 don't do download codes.

No download codes from Vinyl 180? I almost have to admire that. The future where albums are vinyl once again, but purchased for solely for neurotic collector reasons and never actually played due to downloads is even more irritating to me. I dislike downloaded files. They are often compromised in format and represent a lifetime of backing up.

The Pinky Blue reissue is coming in a few weeks and the Bite reissue was just posted for pre-order today: http://www.vinyl180.com/acatalog/Bite.html

And on a side note, I have a sort of unofficial interview next week at a well known digital studio a couple of hours from my home. Could this be the long overdue start of me getting into this as a career? Wouldn't that be nice, but it may just be an opportunity to see a view of how things go on from the master tape vault. I will accept and appreciate it for what it is.
