Seems good though Remember David is sorely missed.

Don't like the mastering of the album remasters.

I concur about the Cherry pop "AFOS" remaster. I also have the original USA CD release and it was barely any different. Both are very thin sounding with very little low end and too much high end. I was able to re-EQ "Pick Me Up' so it didn't sound so hollow and added some low end to the other bonus tracks, but the album tracks were no better than the old CD I already had. Big disappointment especially since the "Platinum & Gold Collection" and Japan "Best Of" (I think from 2004) both had amazing 24 bit remastered sound, but neither collection had ALL tracks from "AFOS'.

The superfecta reissue of "Listen" I think is pretty good.

I appreciate the comments here about the new release and will probably end up nabbing it.

For those that have this, are there any vinyl rips?
I already have nearly everything by them in the form of vinyl rips. Is this any better? What has actually been released on CD for the first time.

And Remember David single version is still unreleased on CD?

No vinyl rips at all. These are all sourced from the original master tapes. Unless my ears deceive me, i listened to almost every track from start to finish. Very impressive indeed.

Finally got my copy today! More than pleased with this. Sound is almost as good as the Japanese Best Of from 2005, but that one was 24-bit.

Upon hearing The Last Flight Of Yuri Gregarin again I noticed a slight hiss at the beginning of the track. Is that supposed to be there?

My fave Seagulls tune is "Modern Love is Automatic" ...kind of bummed there are no alternate versions of that one...
Oh well. When does the album drop again? I will get it anyway.

Review:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The Flock of Seagulls have way too many compilations out there,
at least 15 or more. All of them are good to some degree, and
bad also.

Finally this year, we have a 2 cd remix and rarities collection,
so does this finally solve the problem of which one to get.

No, it does not. Granted at this point, for an 80s band that
is mostly known for 1 or 2 hits, it's great for fans that liked
the band, and stuck it out all this time. (Speaking of US fans).
Maybe in Europe or the UK, people still remember them.

Granted they relocated to the US, and still have been touring
after a couple of albums, after the first three classic ones.

That's the era concentrated on these tracks.
----------------
7 Flock of Seagulls
13 Listen
4 Story of a young heart
3 Dream come true

Tracklist
====================================================
1-1 I Ran (So Far Away) (U.S. 7" Version) 3:40
1-2 Space Age Love Song (7" Version) 3:22
1-3 Wishing (If I Had A Photograph Of You) (7" Version) 4:13
1-4 Nightmares (7" Version) 4:12
1-5 Rosenmontag (Shorter Version) 4:05
1-6 Transfer Affection (7" Version) 4:19
1-7 I Ran (So Far Away) (Live) 5:15

1-11 Nightmares (12" Version) 5:05
1-12 Committed (Short Version) 2:53
1-13 The Traveller (Live) 3:32
1-14 The More You Live The More You Love (Full Moon Mix) 6:14
----------------------------------

2-5 The Last Flight Of Yuri Gagarin (Full Length Version) 7:02

2-9 Never Again (The Dancer) (Re-Mix) 7:43
2-10 Space Age Love Song (Live) 3:46

2-12 Who's That Girl (She's Got It) (Instrumental) 4:20
2-13 Single Medley 5:36

The good part is that a lot of tracks have not appeared on CD before,
mostly the edits, and a few of the live tracks, also the remixes were
spread across the remasters.

Also, the sound quality is very good.

This collection is actually aimed at the 80s fan of the group thats a
little beyond the casual collector. But the actual fans are missing out
on at least one other disc of missing tracks, with at least 80 minutes.

The actual tracklisting in order should be:
====================================================
disc 1
---------
1-1 I Ran (So Far Away) (U.S. 7" Version) 3:40
1-2 I Ran (So Far Away) (Longer Version) 5:08
1-3 I Ran (So Far Away) (Edited Version) 3:59

1-4 Space Age Love Song (7" Version) 3:22

1-5 I Ran (So Far Away) (Live) 5:15
1-6 Space Age Love Song (Live) 3:46
1-7 The Traveller (Live) 3:32

1-8 Wishing (If I Had A Photograph Of You) (7" Version) 4:13
1-9 Wishing (If I Had A Photograph Of You) (Short Version) 4:59
1-10 Wishing (If I Had A Photograph Of You) (U.S. Edit 12" Promo Version) 6:03
1-11 Wishing (If I Had A Photograph Of You) (Long Version) 9:11
1-12 Committed (Short Version) 2:53

1-13 Nightmares (7" Version) 4:12
1-14 Nightmares (U.S. 12" Promo Version) 4:37
1-15 Nightmares (12" Version) 5:05

disc 2
----------
2-1 Rosenmontag (Shorter Version) 4:05
2-2 Rosenmontag (Long Version) 8:05
2-3 The Last Flight Of Yuri Gagarin (Full Length Version) 7:02

2-4 Transfer Affection (7" Version) 4:19
2-5 (It's Not Me) Talking (7" Version) 3:36

2-6 The More You Live The More You Love (Full Moon Mix) 6:14
2-7 Never Again (The Dancer) (7" Version) 3:43
2-8 Never Again (The Dancer) (12" Version) 5:15
2-9 Never Again (The Dancer) (Re-Mix) 7:43

2-10 Heartbeat Like A Drum (Full Length Version) 6:58
2-11 Who's That Girl (She's Got It) (Instrumental) 4:20
2-12 Single Medley 5:36

I would say this is basically a slightly above average collection.
Given that's its relatively cheap and easy to find, if you like the band
or 80s remix collections, then get it, but don't expect to get any kind of
comprehensive or thought put into it.

=================================================================================

Ultimately, this collection fails, in just randomly putting the tracks on there,
with no order, and no thought as to which tracks or mixes are on it. This is
not a good way to represent a band that should have gotten a much better
view back on their output.

Yes. While I appreciate that the creators wanted to include a complete discography in this release, they really didn't need to include every single compilation they could find, simply because many of them are budget-priced releases aimed at the casual music fan (I've produced some of these types of comps back in my music biz days). I would have stuck with the more "official" compilations, and that's it.

Agree the track listing could be better, but I still like the package as it fills in a lot of gaps for me, and the sound is excellent (at least to my ears).

I have this and I find the track listing is not that great--- that singles medley is plain awful. Sound quality though is great.

The main emphasis of this collection was to have stuff that was never available on cd before. I think it's a pretty fine one too. All other AFOS collections are just basic repeats, let alone all the awful re-recorded versions. Due to space restrictions a few tracks were left off but it's still the closest we'll ever come to having a definitive rarities collection.

a few tracks? try at least 20, which could easily fill another 80 minute disc.

they didn't even fill up these 2 discs.

this is just bascially, a lazy release, it took less than an hour to do the research to put the tracks in the right order...

i still don't recommend this compilation to anyone, unless they're more of a hardcore fan...

it's just not worth getting for the lack of material, and the poor organization.

It would have been a better if they had reissued all their albums and made them all doubles to include those extra tracks with these new remasters but it's never going to happen :(

What a bunch of whiners! I think the 3 main studio albums reissued on cd with bonus tracks and this 2 cd rarities comp is all anyone needs for AFOS. I'm glad we got this much, to be honest. Anything not on these 4 titles I don't need, or if I did I'd track it down myself. Jeez!
