Is there actually any need for such compilations nowadays, when virtually anyone can create any compilation he likes on his PC? Especially because labels simply rehash the same number of songs all the time... I wonder does anyone buys those anymore.

It is nice to have a physical copy. These compilations are often 5 CD sets that contain some lesser known tracks
They are often good value

Buying this is like re-inventing the wheel. Almost all of us have them on CD and can make a playlist like this.

There is a lot of recycling of previous compilations - which is a pity.
