80s H'its Huge - Rare & Recycled - 3CD

Released by Sony Music.

Image

From web-site -

'80s H'its Huge – Rare and Recycled,' as the name and the cover implies is a faithful homage to all those many pop compilations on vinyl we lapped and purchased during the 1980s – collections we still either get nostalgic about or even seek out in second-hand record stores.

Compiled by Brent James and along with extensive liner notes and State by State chart details, '80s H'its Huge – Rare and Recycled,' contains many sought after 80s gems from artists including Alan O'Day with his second elusive Aussie hit "Skinny Girls" along with hits from Styx, The Kids From "Fame", The Who, Jona Lewie, The Firm, Bill Wyman, Little River Band, The Kane Gang, The Look and many other rare and recycled 80s treats spread out over this 3CD collection.

A must have for lovers of the 80s, and for those who still treasure their much loved 1980s vinyl various artist albums.

--

I have this CD, arrived today. It has a great booklet included which has a little bit of information on each band and track. The choice of tracks are in many cases quite interesting and different to the default - refreshing, really. I don't think this release will be in print long, so order now if you want it!

The Who on an 80's compilation?

These are all on CD already so no need to pay for them again I think. One can easily make this playlist on their smart device. Big pass.

Fair call I guess. I prefer physical. YM obviously varies.

The Who track is from 1981, so counts. True, is unusual though.

Just because the song was issued in 1981, it doesn't make the band an 80's band. When I personally talk about the 80's music, I consider those 80's where they have their roots in early punk/wave/electro movement. Like Fleetwood Mac had a chart topping album in the 80's but that doesn't mean they are an 80's band. Their roots is in 60's and 70's music. This is type of CDs I'd pay big bucks for. Obscure, underground and never been on CD:

hmmm no-one said being on this comp defines the bands on it as 80s bands. Rolling Stones appear on comps through the 70s, 80s and 90s as another example.

It's just a snap-shot of music from the decade - albeit an unusual one - which is why I thought a heads-up would be nice for folk here.

Thanks for letting me know. In fairness, they are tunes on the compilation that I never heard of. I love discovering artists or bands listening to compilations. Too often the same tracks are re-hashed on various compilations. This CD is a bit different.

Yep, probably 3 quarters of the tracks we see on other comps. But you will have to admit it isn't your average 80s compilation, by and stretch.

Anyway, I've mentioned it here for those who care. Whether someone can create a playlist from ripped media or downloaded tunes is not the point of this forum section - it is about re-releases and compilations - on CD.

I agree with why you posted the song selection, but why call it Rare & Recycled?

I'm guessing it is a lame attempt to differentiate itself a little from the original version from 1984 -
