heaven 17 play to win the virgin years

I have updated the list and also put in bold what has not been released on CD yet.

Virgin was a great label so anything called the Virgin Years is bound to be good. Japan next maybe?

It would have been better maybe had they just done 2 CD deluxes of the first three albums. The China Crisis ones were really good, missing very few tracks.

I don't think the Lady Ice remix will be on there because when I alerted Glenn to it some years ago he had no idea it existed. I can't honestly hear the difference anyway between that and the album version.

You will have to weight up whether the extra non CD tracks, mostly instrumentals, will be worth this deluxe edition. Also I want to know if they are sourced from masters. They fact they were left off previous deluxes makes me think the masters might be lost.

Here is MY OWN TRACKLISTING. I haven't included the actual albums, just the bonus tracks.

PENTHOUSE & PAVEMENT:

I have only included BEF stuff where it appears on a Heaven 17 release.

I would be happy if they left off 'edit's, but included 'version's. I'm also hoping a full instrumental of Let Me Go 12" appears.

You mean this one:
https://www.discogs.com/Heaven-17-Let-M ... se/1608933

I remember having a mixtape with this version on it. Indeed it is not released on CD yet. Some US 12'' Promo vinyl even had a dub version of Let Me Go, but I can't confirm this because it can also be the edited instrumental version of 4:59min:
https://www.discogs.com/Heaven-17-Let-M ... ase/123502

Someone who knows if there's a dub mix/version in existence?

the dub is the same as the instrumental, check youtube.

we had a long discussion and list of heaven 17 mixes here:
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=41257&hilit=heaven+17&start=15#p371055

still have to update and fix tracks and times.

Thanks for clearing this out. Only thing is: the dub mix seems to be a few seconds shorter that the instrumental version (7 inch that is).

It's the same song but the Dub mix, on both the Deluxe CD (titled instrumental there) and the vinyl rip by DJPaul, plays faster than the instrumental mix.

Or it could be that all the vinyl rips of the instrumental mix play slow. I have only compared a few.

On a similar note however I just realised that the dub mix and instrumental of Who'll Stop The Rain is different. The dub mix has more vocals and is shorter. I have amended my list. The instrumental can be found here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsQwPSAvA74
I am assuming this is the 06:50 labelled as a dub version found on the US 12"

Dub mixes and instrumentals are usually different - I found out recently with Alphaville's Red Rose which had the same duration for both dub and instrumental but they are different.

It does have me wondering about Let Me Go Again. I would be curious to hear the so called full instrumental.

My theory is that the dub of LMG should be different but they put the instrumental on the US promo by mistake. The Dub would likely have more vocals, including the chorus.

Thank you anyway!

Now, wouldn't it be cool if we find out that there's gonna be a real 1982 "Dub Mix" of LMG on the boxset ... which is 4:50min. ... or even longer ... or 2 versions, a short and a long mix which are both different. :)

There are very distinct differences to the Lady Ice & Mr Hex Remix.

https://archive.org/details/ecsm-07-1985-04

I hope there is a copy in Martyn's vault. He seems to have found plenty of stuff for the previous box set/digital reissues.

Aren't the 7" 12" and album version of Fascist Groove Thang the same? Doesn't the 12" just have the BEF ident on it?

No How Men Are instrumentals...*sigh*.

No one, but no one, wants that 10th disc.

Quoted above then is all those tracks which are not on the box set, or there abouts, for whatever reasons.

A few notes;

* = currently still exclusively available to download (8 tracks)

There is a 7" version of Fascist Groove Thing - it's 4:08, but the last 30 seconds or so are the BEF Ident, so it's more like 3:40.

Aren't Chase Runner (from Electric Dreams soundtrack) and Counterforce (B-side) the same track?

Where do the How Men Are instrumentals actually originate from? Are they an official release and if so, where can I see it? It's not on Discogs, that I can find?

Heaven 17 Megamix [Edit] literally just chops off the closing beats abruptly. Out of the Endless album sequence, it sounds crap.

I've email them to see if they can add the 9 tracks that are still available to purchase digitally:
(We Don't Need This) Fascist Groove Thang (Censored Version)
Are Everything 7"
Temptation (Backing Track)
Come Live With Me (Backing Track)
Sunset Now (Full Length Version)
The Fuse (Full Length Version)
Flamedown (Full Length Version)
Reputation (Full Length Version)
Sunset Now (12" instrumental)

Also the below should have been included:
Chase Runner - from Electric Dreams Soundtrack
The Height of the Fighting (He-La-Hu) - from the compilation "Higher and Higher", originally on Endless

If they included that it would be perfect. I am not surprised the How Men Are Instrumentals or Lady Ice remix was not included. They probably don't have them anymore in the archives.

Not bothered about the b side versions of Flamedown and The Fuse provided they had included the full length versions.

The extended instrumental of Let Me Go continues to have mythical status.

So really if you get this boxset AND the 2006 digital versions, you have nearly everything.

Is the 7" of We Live So Fast really different?

I’m gonna hold off on this one for now. Want to see what errors occur initially. Edsel was behind the Dead Or Alive box that was full of screwups. Let’s see how this one turns out.
