Really nice selection, lots of great songs from minimal synth genre, have to get my hands on this for sure!

But I'm at the same time wary of the sound mastering. For example they already featured Alan Burnham's "Music to save the world by" on several of their compilations - and it's remastered horribly, with this unpleasant distorted effect on electronics. Hope this time they'll be more careful with the sources!

Does it overlap with Beyond the Noise Floor, the other CR early synth comp?

I don't see any overlapping tracks; indeed there aren't too many overlapping artists. Hopefully they'll do similar sets with European and American bands.

Got my old band (well, 1 person then duo) The Toy Shop onto CD 4 with 'Live Wires Kill' - yay!! 'The Maze' is coming up soon on a Cherry Red Sheffield themed compilation plus I'll be putting some Toy Shop stuff on Bandcamp in the near future.

Fantastic track! Love it so much, such energy and power in just under 2 minutes! For me it stands among the greats of the genre.

"The Maze" and quite a few other songs are very good as well. Wish you luck in all your endeavours! :D

Thanks for the kind words! I'm pretty sure I must have heard The Normal's 'TV OD/Warm Leatherette' before I put 'Live Wires' together and the single (Daniel Miller loved it) got me an audition with Depeche Mode at the end of 1981 when Vince Clarke left. Daniel paid for me to stay overnight (I was from Sheffield at that time) for a 2nd audition where I believe there was only me and that pesky Alan Wilder! I think Daniel preferred me but the boys seemed to be impressed with Alan as he could also play piano (plus he was a London boy like them).

What a great story! Have to say, while I understand the historical value and influence of "Warm leatherette", I have little desire to listen to it - unlike "TV OD" and your single. So you actually had contacts with Mute - was there ever a talk of your signing to them?

Just been listening to "Synth Pop Art" comp - "The Maze" is just great, as is "Attack decade". And your cover of "I feel love" is very surprising but quite good, actually! Definitely a nice addition to the canon of early 1980s synth music :D

Yep, I prefer 'TV OD' as well I must admit. No, there was no talk of signing to Mute at that time although thinking about it now I should have pursued something with a direct contact like that! Later on (1982), when Toy Shop became a duo we had interest from CBS, EMI & Chrysalis but unfortunately that didn't work out & we eventually signed with Towerbell for (I think) 2 singles & an option on an album. They picked Attack Decade as a single but we wanted the new version of The Maze, which was to be the 2nd single but it never happened (don't know the reasons why to this day). Thanks again for your comments!
