Harold Budd was swept away by the Covid 19 on December 8, 2020. He was 84 years old.
I had discovered him through his collaboration with the members of the Cocteau Twins in the magnificent "The Moon & The Melodies" in 1986. He introduced me to ambient music.
He delighted me through his numerous collaborations with Eno of course but also John Foxx, Louis Gordon, Theo Travis, Andy Partridge and Robin Guthrie...

That is sad news, I loved his ambient work with John Foxx.

My spouse and I loved Harold Budd. Not a week goes by where we are not playing his music at home. We were lucky to see him once at Moogfest 2012 and his 2019 residency at Big Ears Festival where he gave three performances. All very different. He closed the festival with a 90 minute performance of "As Long As I Can Hold My Breath" where he left the stage after 20 minutes; leaving the music in the hands of his son leading the orchestra. A more poetic final performance you could not imagine.
