The Cars-Deluxe Edition

The Cars-Deluxe Edition

I finally managed to pick up this 1999 Elektra/Rhino release.
I was partly driven by the surprisingly high placing it made in the top 80 New Wave albums survey. However, prior to that it still was on my wish list.
It is a 2-disk release, consisting of the original album, remastered, on one disk, and a bonus disk of demo versions of the album's songs, plus 4 additional previously unissued songs.

"Just What I Needed", in it's demo form, was an everpresent song on the radio (WBCN) during my undergraduate college years in Boston; definitely a defining song for me (and many other people I'm sure). It still rocks my world!

A highly recommended purchase [;)]

I just picked up mine. Might as well get it before it disappears! Good call, Schwenko!

This is one of my favorite Deluxe Reissues. The 2nd CD is the entire album in correct order with either demo versions or live versions of each track. I actually listen to the 2nd CD more than the first.

I was just listening to it in the car today. Complete bliss.

Think the second disc actually shows off more of the guitar work and is a bit more edgier in it's raw form. Why didn't they release " they won't see you" and the others on anything else?

God it had been too long since I listened to the debut album straight through...until I picked up the Deluxe Edition tonight. IT IS ENTHRALLING!!! How freakin perfect was this album?! I've too-long relied on my Best Of CD and ignored my Cars LPs. What a mistake. What an amazing break-through for the '78 music scene!
