The software I use is Cool Edit Pro. I have used this from the start, and have really got a good grasp of the advantages/limitations of the tools I utilize. I never use auto pop removal since it always tends to damage certain parts of the music. I do all of that manually, and very carefully.

In other words, we should better wait a few weeks before ordering the CD and ask beforehand if the album carries the mention : remastered by.... credit![:D][:D][:D]

Thanx for the tip Scott![;)]

I've always found of the 3 main sources of vinyl noise, crackle is the toughest to deal with. The clicks are easy to deal with and surface noise is usually a pre restoration decision (if it's too noisy, I usually take a pass on restoring it. As a result, I have multiple copies of many records) If the surface noise is acceptable, I find I can remove virtually all of it without leaving artifacts. Crackle however, really sucks up the time during a restoration.

I'd kill to see how good a job Cedar's de-clickle algorithm does.

BTW, by flat transfer, do you mean without the RIAA curve applied?

To be sure you get the new, improved version of the Toyah CD, you'd probably want to order it through the Cherry Red site. Some other places may have leftover warehouse stock to get rid of before getting the new pressing. That is when the new pressing happens.

Crackle isn't much of a problem with me. I put every piece of vinyl I have through a strict cleaning process, which took me the better part of a decade to finally invent. And no, I am not sharing my secret. :-) Of course, there are limitations, but I have made many terrible looking pieces of vinyl look and sound sparkly and new!

Congrats on the Toyah CD, Scott. I wish Cherry Red would let you redo Fashion's "Fabrique" (released on CD first by Arista and then by Cherry Red as "Height of Fashion". Both the Arista and Cherry Red versions are full of tape hiss. (Although at least Cherry Red put the right version of "Something in Your Picture" on the disc when they rereleased it.)

They would probably let me, but I would have to have the original CD to work with. I don't own it. Plus, they would wait until current stock runs out before it would go into production. That's what's happening with my remaster of one of their Eyeless in Gaza titles.

Hey Scott, are U aware of the Philippine version released by Warner . It says mastered by Giovann Townhouse. In addition, it's quite cheap less than $7.

I am still so bummed that they messed up on the mastering of "Just An Echo".

Hello New Wave Outposters...new to the forum although I've been reading threads on-line for about a year now. Great site! Anyway, here's my B-Movie question: I picked up the Platinum Collection and it contains different (re-recorded) versions of "Nowhere Girl" and "Remembrence Day" than those found on the original Sire 12" single from 1982. Does anyone out there own the "Dead Good Years" cd of earlier B-Movie material? If so, does it contain the original, more popular version of "Nowhere Girl" that appears on the 12" and many compilation cd's (sometimes with, and sometimes without the extended piano intro)?

No, that Dead Good version is actually bit of an extended version of the one found on Remembrance days. I don't which one is on the Platinum collection, but Dead Good has about 15 seconds more lead-in than the ~4.41 Remembrance Days one. Neither is the ~4.37 Forever Running version or the ~6.30 extended found on the 12" single and comps or the ~3.40 radio edit. Kinda crazy that the Platinum version isn't the full and beloved single. Thanks Blir. It appears none of the official B-Movie cd releases include the versions I'm used to...think I'll hold onto that old Sire Records 12" single! That said, do you recommend either "Remembrence Days" or "The Dead Good Years"? I think the former is still available as an import cd.

Tough call. They really serve a different purpose. The former puts most of their key stuff onto CD. The latter is a collection of raw, elemental tracks that gives a refreshing view of their work. So, both! Sorry. [V]

When I read all those things about the Toyah CD release of Mayhem, I wonder if they take back copies of the first print. I bought it immidiatly when it got out, but you can understand that I'm a bit pished off with the soundquality. and now I read that the second print will have a better soundquality I wonder if Cherry Red is willing to swap copies?
