this almost looks like a parody of titles for a psb album and single. i mean, "minimal"? we get it neil, we get it. form over function.

If the Bauhaus School of Design was a pop group, it would be the Pet Shop Boys [:p]

I guess if the PSB ever wanted to make a last album, they can just call it FINAL. Really curious how the PSB are going to sound on this album.

Huh, I'd never thought of that, but at least these titles here do seem to illicit the image of the artistic and practical existing in unison. Almost like how Steinbeck would simply but elegantly write books full of straight-forward words? I wonder if it really applies to their songs themselves though. Could you explain - this is actually kinda interesting. But then again, I'm traveling and stuck in a hotel room with nothing else to do! [:I]

Real quick - as I have one foot out the door to go back to Croxley Ale House [;)]

The Pet Shop Boys have mastered the art of the simple pop song. Truly - theirs is a brand of pop that flows due to an inexorable dedication to elegant simplicity. Take Home & Dry for example. TWO (2) chords. That's it. T-W-O. Here they build a sonic collage by layering harmonies and melodies that are devoted to this two chord rule as well. It's like Tiffany's jewelry. It's all so basic and um...fundamental.....but top quality materials are used with superb finishing. This is why PSB songs are so damned hummable and stick with you long after they've ended. New Order are very similiar in this respect by the way. Their pop sensibilities are very compatible which is why Electronic was so magnificent. Why I like to mix the two groups together when I do my DJ thing. I've noticed a.....fundamental.....move towards simplistic.....minimalism.....in Release as well. Except on that work, you had a lush and very rich instrumentation with all the "real" instruments. Again, finishing. A chord is a chord but it sounds different on different instruments. The album was undeniably PSB. (Of course Chris Lowe had his little electronica jam in there with the Samurai In Autumn [;)] - but still, minimalism reigned supreme even there) Hopefully this new album will be an exploration in timeless and understated yet most dramatic MINIMALism. I know the Bauhaus masters would be highly interested.

OK, I need a beer. L8R [8D]

You fucker [:D] Wanna have your mind blown even more? I just thought of this in the car. In the two chord Home & Dry, one chord is a derivative of the other. So from a certain point of view (I'm sorry, did Obi Wan just walk in here?) one can say that the song is one chord. C. Yeah, even the chorus. Shit, PSB own and rule all. Now kiss my ass [}:)]

Just kidding [8D] Now just admit how much you love the Pet Shop Boys. You know you can't wait for their next NYC show. You know you'll be loitering around the back stage entrance for autographs [;)]

more news from Petheads:

> Found this online:

> The release of Nightlife - Further listening is set back by their
> record company but a release of the Discovery concert on DVD is
> planned.
>
> Anybody know what might be on Nightlife further listening? For All
> Of Us?

neil mentionned closer to heaven slow version + their version of some
tracks from the musical (without naming any if I remember well).

it's supposed to be released at the same time as Release further
listening. EMI tends to think they're putting out too many things so they're delaying some.

Inevitably (I suppose), here is a review of the new Pet Shop Boys album due to be released next year. Normally I wouldn't read a review in advance of getting a PSB album, but by the time the album is released i will have forgotten any specific details of the review[:)]
