I would expect that response from a male who is insecure in his own masculinity. Now, of course I'm not insinuating that >you're< such a male, just that I'd expect it from such a male.
Let's list some examples of rugged he-man pop bands, shall we? You know, stuff that can be listened to without fear of anyone questioning a man's masculinity...
Motley Crue
Jackal
Lynyrd Skynrd
Bruce Springsteen
John Cougar Mellencamp
Whitesnake
AC/DC

You forgot the most masculine band ever - The Wild Swans. LOL.
Let's see, Whitesnake and Jackyl (yes, it's spelled with a "Y") are a joke, Motley Crue has some value, and the others have at the least managed to sustain long, succesful careers. Bruce and Skynyrd are even in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. Not a bad list overall and even the most laughable band on it (Jackyl)sold far more records, have a much larger fanbase, and will be remembered long after THE COLOUR FIELD.
Here's my own list:
Halls with considerably more talent than Terry Hall:
Arsenio
DeAngelo
Kids In The
Anthony Michael
Philip Baker
Moby (real name Richard Melville Hall)
Edited to add: Chuck Hall. You don't know him so you'll just have to trust me. He's a local cop and I once saw him eat a doughnut and direct traffic at the same time.
