SMASH PALACE-BEST OF

SMASH PALACE-BEST OF

Postby fanciz » Wed Dec 14, 2005 6:56 am

Stephen Butler sent me an email about the releae of a Best Of.

"Hey....just wanted to share the good news with you...Smash Palace has signed a recording contract with Zip Records, a west coast label, that will be releasing a new Smash Palace CD in 2006. The CD will come out in the UK (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) in April and then the rest of Europe sometime in the summer. We will be touring in the UK and Europe when the CD comes out. There is also a US and Canada release being planned too.

The CD will be a best of collection, taking about 4 to 5 songs from each of our last 3 CDs and a couple of new songs too. Some of the songs will be re-recorded so you'll get new versions of old favorites. We haven't had an overseas release yet so this will be our introduction to the European market. Let me know if you have any requests of songs that you think have to be on this Cd...I'm open to suggestions!"
I have requested from their self-titled album the songs:A Night To Remember, Count The Days, Living On A Borderline and... No Love Lost.
If U have any requests, let me know and I will forward them to him. Thanx

Well, in case some newbies are not familiar with the band, let me give U a short bio.
When co-vocalist Brian Butler left pop quintet Quincy, the band changed both their name (to Lulu Temple) and their musical direction (from pop to white-new wave-funk). When Brian's brother, guitarist Stephen Butler, followed Brian's lead and left Lulu Temple; the two rejoined forces and formed Smash Palace, a crunchy guitar band heavily influenced by British pop, both old and new. With bassist Phil Barnett, rhythm guitarist Greg Persun, and drummer Harry Lewis, the band signed to CBS and released their self-titled debut album in 1985. Though the album was geared for a larger audience than both Quincy and Lulu Temple and their "Living on the Borderline" gained significant airplay, sales were dismal and the band was dropped. For most bands, this would be the end of the story, but not for Smash Palace. Strangely enough, in 1999, Imagine Records released Fast, Long, Loud, a brand-new Smash Palace CD.

Since 1999, Smash Palace has released 3 albums:Fast,Long,Loud; Unlocked and Over The Top. However for us newwavers our interest lies in their 1985 self-titled album. The song No Love Lost is a gem which could send The Killers pack their bags ahahah. Unfortunately, I'm not very sure if tracks of this album will be included in the Best Of.

Thanks for the information! The "Best Of" is a nice place to start and I will get it. I do hope the 1985 debut will be released on cd as well. That is a classic album to have! Are "Over The Top" and "Unlocked" available on cd? I already have "Fast, Long, Loud".

Yes, the CD's are available. Here's a link to listen to 2' clips.

Their best album out of the three most recent is Over the Top. Best tracks: Steal Her Thunder, I'll Be There, Juliet To Me and It's Not Enough which sounds like Another Man that U have. Unlocked has some Beatles flavor. Best tracks: In My World Tonight, What You're Missing, Sooner Or Later, Give U My Word.
But between U & me, the album that I really want is the self-titled![:D]

I have the self-titled album so I won't particularly be needing any of those same tracks to be included in the upcoming "Best Of" compilation.[:D]

Their releases since that debut are also well worth having. I have 4 CD's and they are all very essential IMO.
