Our Old Guard - New Songs - Comp

Our Old Guard - New Songs - Comp

Postby Frau_Blucher » Tue Jan 03, 2006 3:45 am

Here's a comp of songs from our New Wave old guard. All were made in Y2K or after (ok, I cheated and snuck in two 1999 tracks). I just wanna add my voice to all those guys on the NWO who insist that there IS still good work being put out there. I hope it piques your interest to explore more. I won't post it here since it's all new stuff but just drop me an email and I'll send you the download link to this comp:

01 - Turn - New Order - Waiting For The Sirens' Call - 2005
02 - All Because Of You Days - Echo & The Bunnymen - Siberia - 2005
03 - First of the Gang to Die - Morrissey - You Are The Quarry - 2004
04 - Home - Simple Minds - Black And White 050505 - 2005
05 - Dutch Moon - The Stranglers - Norfolk Coast - 2004
06 - Nathan's Phase - The Chameleons - Strip - 2000
07 - Precious - Depeche Mode - Playing The Angel - 2005
08 - The End of the World - The Cure - The Cure - 2004
09 - Nature Boy - Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - Abbatoir Blues-The Lyre of Orpheus - 2004
10 - The Setup - Mission of Burma - Onoffon - 2004
11 - Manhood - Dexy's Midnight Runners - Manhood UK CDS - 2003
12 - Springtime In New York - Jonathan Richman - Her Mystery Not Of High Heels And Eye Shadow - 2001
13 - New York City Boy - Pet Shop Boys - Nightlife - 1999
14 - Hands Up To Heaven - Heaven 17 - Before After - 2005
15 - All I Ever Wanted - The Human League - Secrets - 2001
16 - Homesick - The Finn Brothers - Everyone Is Here - 2004
17 - From The Floorboards Up - Paul Weller - As Is Now - 2005
18 - Seventeen Again - Eurythmics - Peace - 1999
19 - White Dwarf - A-Ha - Analogue - 2005
20 - Are You Satisfied? - The Fixx - Want That Life - 2003
21 - More Than This (hidden track) - Bill Murray - Lost in Translation Soundtrack - 2003

PS. Any glaring omissions of other great artists/tracks in the last 5 years?

I like it quite a lot, but the feeling isn't completely universal. For other views, I recall a couple of threads about Siberia. Try searching for "Echo", limiting it to titles only.

^^Yeah, Siberia's a good album^^

Yeah, so I got around to finally listening to this compilation and it's a solid testament to the long term musical ability of the "Old Guard". Solid songs all around. These groups still "have it", without question. Now I need to pick up some of these albums that I don't have.

I like "Siberia," especially "Of a Life." I think one could quibble that this sounds like it followed directly from 1987's "Echo & the Bunnymen," i.e., where is the growth and change? For example, the melody of "Siberia" seems to be a combination of "Nocturnal Me" and "Thorn of Crowns." But that didn't really bother me; I liked the 1987 album a lot too.
