Every DM album re-mastered in 5.1 SACD & Best Of

Every DM album re-mastered in 5.1 SACD & Best Of

Postby ebbhead » Sat Jan 14, 2006 8:29 am

From http://www.depeche-mode.com/forum/index ... ic=16563.0

Last year was busy for Depeche Mode, and 2006 is shaping up to be just as busy, with a massive tour already booked, more shows being added all the time and... get this... another album!

Don't expect a full length album of new material, however. It's a compilation - a "Best Of" of sorts - that will be in stores in time for Xmas 2006. The "Best Of" will top off a year chuck full of Depeche Mode releases.

Simon Heyworth, a UK based mastering legend, is currently working on a complete remastering of Depeche Mode's entire album backcatalogue. These will be released in batches of three every few months beginning from March. Each disc will feature 5.1 remastered sound and as yet undisclosed bonus content.

As "Touring The Angel" draws to a close some time in August, the concert experience will be heading to stores on DVD. The live DVD is tentatively set for a September release. No word yet on whether the DVD will be accompanied by a CD release, but here's hoping it will.

The next single, "Suffer Well", will be with us as soon as February... featuring remixes by, amongst others, Alter Ego. The fourth single, "John The Revelator", should be with us by late April/early May.

Tentative release schedule:

February 20th:
Suffer Well (CDS, CDM, DVD Single)

March 2nd:
Speak & Spell (SACD)
Music For The Masses (SACD)
Violator (SACD)

April 13th:
A Broken Frame (SACD)
Construction Time Again (SACD)
Some Great Reward (SACD)

April/May:
John The Revelator (CDS, CDM, DVD single) TBC

June 15th
Black Celebration (SACD)
Songs Of Faith & Devotion (SACD)
Songs Of Faith & Devotion Live (SACD)

August 10th:
Ultra (SACD)
Exciter (SACD)

September 29th:
Playing The Angel Live (DVD - title not finalized)

November 2nd:
Best Of Depeche Mode (CD, DVD - title not finalized)

Cool. I've been waiting for a re-mastering of Black Celebration. The original just sounds flat (high on the mid-range frequencies).

Flat??? What a strange statement, Black Celebration is one of the best NW albums!
BTW, But Not Tonight is my favorite DM track![;)]

IMO, synth crashes, sound distortions or whatever U want to call that, should be removed from the album Playing the Angel, not only they don't add anything to the tracks but they are really annoying!

Thanks for the info ebbhead, I can`t wait. This is going to be most EXCELLENT. Black Celebrations & Some Great Rewards Remastered [:p][:p][:p][:p][:p]. The only thing that could top this, is if they remastered all of John Denver`s albums (He He , just kidding).

Thanks Again

that would be audio quality, not album content. it was mastered by 1980's standards, and is not sonically acceptable anymore. that doesn't mean the songs themselves are flat.
jeez, read.

I guess this is good news, except now I'll have to buy an SACD player. (Unless these are Hybrid-SACD's, they won't play on conventional CD players.)

Thinking is that it'll likely be a hybrid, tho the news isn't technically official...just leaked at this point. I'm sure that for this to be commercially successful, they'll have to be hybrids, since SACD players aren't by any means ubiquitous yet.

"101" and "Playing the Angel" are both Hybrid so I would assume Mute would keep this trend going. It's not that I look for SACDs but I haven't seen any pop-music releases that weren't Hybrid.

I've heard a rumor of 4/18 for the first 3 (Violator, Music For The Masses and Speak & Spell) to be released in the US. 2 CD sets; not sure if that means a second disc of extras, or a DVD/DVD-Audio disc.
