My rarest 12" ...?

perhaps:

Der Plan - Gummitwist 12" (Ata Tak 1983)

I thougt many many years, that there are no 12" from Der Plan, although I collect this band, but after another years of searching I get one [:)][:)]

Hey gang - great topic.... I actually collect UK 12"er's so here goes my list of rarest 12"er's

•Simple Minds: "New Gold Dream 81,82,83,84" (Extended Version) ....This Is a legit Virgin records release only in Italy. Same cover as LP --- different back.
•Art Of Noise: "Legs" (Last Legs Mix) -- although this mix was ( I beleive) released in the U,S, -- what makes this rare, is that the cover has an ostrich instead of a horse. extraordinarily hard to find.
•Kraftwerk: "Neon Lights" on 'Luminous' vinyl (glow in the dark) (not super duper rare...but....very cool)
•OMD: "Telegraph" UK extended version (not Canadian)
•Men Without Hats: "Folk of The 80's" -- the original 10" - more of an E.P....Ok sorry -doesn't quite meet criteria...
•Prince "Purple Rain" 12" Promo on purple Vinyl (!)
•Depeche Mode "Enjoy The Silence" (The Quad: Final Mix) etched 1 sided
•Visage "Pleasure Boys" (hand drawn cover)
•David Sylvian "Secrets Of the Beehive" Promo Interview/sampler 500 pressed by Virgin

well, not really a stellar list for one who collects 12", but I mostly collect stuff I like, not because they are rare or valuable

For me its a UK import of Master in Servant L12 remixed by Adrien Sherwood, not a big fan of the song but the remix is incredible (almost inaudible) and it was never rereleased on the subsequent reissues in the UK or USA box sets.

Yuck, I hate this mix. I have it but the German Intercord pressing :vomit:. Well, at least it's individually numbered. Yeah, it's too bad Mute didn't take the opportunity to revamp the singles 1-3 boxsets with all the mixes when they released 4-6.

Japenese Duran Duran 12" called "Tiger Tiger".

I don't have Tiger Tiger but I have "Night Romantics" (basically Planet Earth + Girls on Film 12"es). Got it used for $5 in the early 90s and it's in mint condition [:)]. There were a lot of vinyl dumping in the early 90s.

Rarest 12" Images In Vogue - "Save It" (Extended Remix) b-side to "In The House" (Australian only release)

Picked this one up (like new) last year. It sort of loses its excitement since the remix of Save It is on the first Collection CD though.

•OMD: "Telegraph" UK extended version (not Canadian)

Have you checked the Official OMD site? I haven't visited the discography in awhile but I recall there being different remixes packaged in the same cover. The one I have is the same mix as featured on the Best Of CD.

My brother gave me his Kiss - I Was Made for Loving You single sided promo 12". Don't know how rare overall but I picked up Pet Shop Boys West End Girls original release. No picture sleeve but only a generic Epic one. Some ZTT 12"es from Propaganda, although I don't think any of them are the super rare ones.

Not rare at all...in fact I have a few copies of this in the collection. Good for a laugh with the kids. After I explain what a turntable is, and then explain records, and then why the vinyl was luminescent and ....well, you get the picture.

Eight6: Agreed re: Kraftwerk Glow vinyl --- with the ramping up of Ebay, what USED to be rare, sometimes becomes commonplace overnight....I used to see that record go for around $70 US , and now you can get it round $13...
OBS: There are two extended versions of 'Telegraph' ....UK and Canadian... both solid mixes...The bonus with the Canadian one is you get a cool version of Genetic Engineering on the flip....OMD was well recieved in Canada in the very early 80's (especially the Architecture and Morality Lp) Canada became a sort of test market for the US during this period...interestingly enough there were quite a few Canadian only 12" Joan of Arc, Joan Of arc Waltz, Souvineer, the aforementioned 12"...I am almost positive none of these were released domestically in the U.S. as 12"...Simple Minds were doing this in Canada around the same time, culminating in what could possibly be the most Canadian pandering record for Simple Minds "Sister Feelings Call"....I moved to the States in 1983, so my knowledge re Canadian releases after that gets a little fuzzy...

A few rarities that I have:

Kiss the Blade - Young Soldier
Fallout Club - Wonderlust
Land of Giants - Seven Men w/ Cannibal Dolls
Story Structure - I Told You
The Hollow Men - The Drowning Man
and to a lesser degree:

Vision - Lucifer's Friend
Box of Toys - Precious is the Pearl

It's not a 12" but very rare none the less would be the Food and Shelter lp "Square Dance"

I think I got my first copy of Neon Lights from a record collector's magazine. That's how you got records from Europe and the U.K. before the advent of the internet.[:D]

That wasn't what I meant:
http://www.omd.uk.com/discography/singl ... /s_20.html
(I have the CA 12" too, btw).

Canada became a sort of test market for the US during this period

Hmm, I look at it as Canadians were more open to UK stuff back then [:)].

Simple Minds were doing this in Canada around the same time, culminating in what could possibly be the most Canadian pandering record for Simple Minds "Sister Feelings Call"....

What was the deal with the CA Sister Feelings Call? It was still a companion EP to "Sons ..." like in the UK, although the two had slightly different tracklists.

Two rares I forgot are:
Erasure - L12 of "Who Needs Love Like That" (bad seller so copies were recalled)
Erasure - UK "Oh L'Amour" with Thomas the Tank Engine cover (illegally used so recalled and re-packaged with plain blue sleeve). Nobody seemed to have complained in Canada about the Thomas cover though.

OBS: thanks for the info on the 'O'Lamour' 12" I'll have to check mine, but Im pretty sure its the one with the train...unfortunately I also remember it has extensive water damage. just off the cuff have you digitally archived any OLD china Crisis B-sides? Im looking for a track called 'No Ordinary Lover'..it was an instrumental B side of "No More Blue Horizons (fool, fool, fool)"

here's some more rare-'eighties' (get it, rareities, with 'eighties' instead of...ohhh fergettit...)

•OMD; "So In Love" UK 12" (rare cuz I got Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys to sign it on the Crush tour) - again I'm sure this doesnt fit criteria...but fuggit.
•Tears For Fears: "The Way You Are" Japanese E.P., extra tracks
•The The: "Perfect" 12" came with original UK release of Soul Mining
•Images In Vogue: "Educated Man" 12" EP
•George Clinton: "Atomic Dog" Original UK 12"

Lastly: this may not count but: Spandau Ballets BOX set of Diamond contains 12" remixes of every song (except the title track) this is the only place you can find the remix of 'Coffee Club'...This box set USED to be more rare....but again, y'know....

My 3 big WANTS are
•Neon Judgement:"Fashion Party" 12" original 83
•PIL: "Death Disco" 12"
•Styloo: "Pretty Face" 12"

I don't know just how rare these are, but I've always considered these to be rare:

Vicious Pink - Take Me Now, Fetish, Cccan't You See
Connector - Face the Fact
Propaganda - P:Machinery (Beta Wrap Around Mix)
Edelweiss - Bring Me Edelweiss
Feargal Sharkey - A Good Heart
Red Flag - Broken Heart

I love...LOVE vinyl, but my 12" single collection is relatively sparse. I wish I had much more, but I was too young and too poor during the 80's to get a lot. [:(]

Just make sure it is the UK 12" of Oh L'Amour. I don't think any North American pressings are rare. When I bought it (used), the store put a BIG sticker on the front stating "rare sleeve" or something to that effect. How stupid of them. Luckily, they just got it in so that the glue didn't seep into the sleeve and it was easy to peel off without destroying anything.

No, sorry, don't think I have any China Crisis at all.

•Images In Vogue: "Educated Man" 12" EP

Being a big IIV fan, I was ecstatic to find this one, not knowing it even existed before. Ended up with two copies, along with two copies of the "Pre-release" 7inch [:D].

Yeah, growing up in Canada, there were many great electonic bands I still listen to alot....I remember seeing a kind of public access TV show in Calgary and it was a IIV concert at a little bar in town....soo cool. They were more like Rational Youth at that time --- geeky - kraftwerky (before they adopted that 'Skinny Puppy' look) super analog syths and drums. anyway I would love to get my hands on the "Pre Release" 7" I am not too familiar with it even though Ive seen it on the site. Now, in the "what can you do for me catagory"....do you have the Mp3 of the song "For Germans"? trade you for a Psyche mp3?
