Me, Coop and likely others here have been ripping away for awhile. Definitely not the highest tech out there but it sure makes things easy.

I have found that the more I rip, the more concerned I am with every pop and click, no matter how insignificant. It's become obsessive!

I have many projects in the works right now,among them: The New Marines, complete collection, and a power pop lost gem from 1982 by a group from Tucson, Arizona called Jonny Sevin, who remind me of The Plimsouls!

I'm thinking Audacity may be limited and might start looking for something better.

My condolences on your condition.

Depending on your budget, Algorithmix has a couple of plugins (Scratchfree & Noisefree) that are amazing. Once you get the hang of it, virtually all clicks, pops & crackle are gone, without any digital artifacts. (of course, assuming you've set it up properly.) They're not cheap, but IMHO they are worth every penny. If your budget doesn't quite allow for the cost, Diamond Cut's DC6 is also an excellent package.

ACK! I remember that thread - I even participated in it. I just read a recent review on the product and assumed it was newer. Guess I should've checked first and not polluted the board with such repetition [V]

I don't know if my wife will let me spend that many Euros for the Algorithmix (although I don't know how much it is!)

Coop:

Algorithmix is definitely a "behind your wife's back" type of purchase ($1,500.00 U.S. per plugin) Not to mention ReNOVAtor to remove spot noise without affecting the other sounds $2,499.00 U.S. This application is used to remove things like coughs from classical performances, but is equally useful for large disturbances from beat up vinyl.

DC6 I can vouch for as a best bang for the buck product. Throw in a copy of Adobe Audition for it's great dehiss section and you're off and running in the wonderful, if frustrating world of vinyl restoration.
