Turntables

I've been using a Bang & Olufsen Beogram 5000 for about 24 years now and I'm looking into replacing the cartridge for the 2nd or 3rd time. Only now an OEM cartridge is $800. Aftermarket ones are much cheaper - starting at about $150, but I'm not sure of quality, weight, etc. The turntable itself has been quite good - no failures or complaints.

I'm always curious to hear what other vinyl lovers use and where you shop for parts - stylii, cartridges, etc.

Holy shite. And used at that. Maybe I'll sell mine. Makes you long for the good ol' days, don't it?:

BTW, I was wrong about the tonearm on the Beogram 5000 - it'll move all over hell as long as the unit isn't running, so the solid state cleaner should be easy to use.

To this day, one of the best deals I've gotten off eBay was one of my TX-2's. I had bought one used, but in perfect condition a month earlier (again, off of eBay) and as is normally the case, a better one pops up as soon as I paid for this one.

The second one was NIB ( actually new, but the box had been opened for inspection, and closed up again). Included in the auction was the MMC-2 he intended to put on the TX-2, but obviously never got around to. Price: $270.00 U.S. + shipping.

The first one was going to be used for parts if needed, but I've never needed to fix anything on the 2nd unit, so the first unit (which I had overhauled with new belts etc. with the intention to sell) is in the B&O box. I'll get around to selling it one day. It also has it's MMC-2 on it (probably about half it's life left.)

THOSE were the good old days!
