First NW album u owned?

Postby Dave » Mon Dec 15, 2003 3:18 am

For me, it was probably 1979... either the Cars "Candy-O" on 8-track tape (no, cassettes will never take off) or a laser-etched version of Split Enz "True Colours". Both classics.

Doesn't seem like the Cars get the respect they deserve. Too bad, cuz I know they got a lot of people like me into NW. First three albums were great.

Good question! It's hard to remember what was my first new wave album but I assume it's either 20/20's first, The Go-Go's "Beauty & The Beat" or The Church "Of Skins & Heart".

Dave, I've been wanting to ask this one as well. My first new wave LP was Outlandos D'Amour by the Police. At the time I'd never heard anything by them, not even 'Roxanne'. Nowadays I'm not really sure if I still consider the Police new wave. But the al

True about the Cars. But when I bought the first two Cars albumns I didn't know about New Wave. They were straight rock-pop. They played them at the local roller rink along with hard rock like Rush and AC/DC. They also played them on all the hard rock

The Cars "Candy-O" was my first New Wave album purchase too, followed promptly by their self-titled first album. Some of my other early New Wave purchases were The Police "Outlando D'Amour", Gary Numan "The Pleasure Principle", XTC "Black Sea", and The B

bpdp3/fritzb - I can't believe you *both* mentioned XTC's Black Seas. It was the third album I was going to mention! Saw the Generals and Majors video and ran right out to buy it (my first "discovery"). It remains one of my all-time favorites.

Those tapes came from when Columbia still did their "12 tapes for a Penny" deal....do they still d

Hmmm, I knew a lot of songs before I was actually buying albums, since I turned 10 in 1981. My parents had decent taste, so I was familiar with artists like The Cars. Squeeze, XTC, Talking Heads, and Elvis Costello. I remember some of the first albums I
