Great topic! It was 1979 when I first purchased my albums. I still have all of them and still collect 80's vinyl. Thank God for KSPC 88.7 FM (Claremont College in Southern California) that played all the best music!!!

Looks like Outlandos D'Amour has emerged as the consensus winner, with Candy-O, B-52's, Freedom of Choice, and Black Seas in a race for second.

DEVO - Are We Not Men? We Are Devo!

Bought it at this stupid store called GEMCO (long gone). I seem to remember saving for it and it being like $3.98 or something.

I was 7.

That album still rules!

I don't quite remember all the early purchases , but they included The Cars first (and best) album , Police single "Roxanne" with "Dead End Job" as its b-side. Fabulous Poodles "Mirror Star" , Flash and the Pan's first album ( and oddly enough , with Flas

I think Wazmo Nariz's "Things Are'nt Right" was also an early purchase.

Not really sure if this is considered New Wave anymore but it was the coolest thing I had @ the age of 12!
Kim Wilde's first LP that had 'Kids in America' on it.
Everything she did up until 'You Keep Me Hangin' On' was incredible!

Unfortunately, I don't think it was anything cool. I think for Christmas when I was about eight I received ABBA's "Voulez-Vous" eight-track. The first album I purchased for myself was Berlin's "Pleasure Victim" on cassette when I was about 12. My Mum was

I LOVED Abba. The Visitors had such strong New Wave leanings. they were the only band I liked off of WLIR's playlist.

You are right on with that one.
I could never get it played on 'LIR no matter how many times I requested.
Guess the ABBA stigma was too much to overcome. Although Frida's 'there's something going on' still gets occasional airplay.

I don't know if you remember the Chambers & Taggart morning show, somewhere in the 90s, but Joe Taggart said that one morning. "Why don't we play Abba?"

My first album was not really an album. It was Q-Feel Dancing in Heaven. It was a 12 inch dance version single. I still have it. I unlike many others here do not consider the Police, Cars or Blondie as really new wave. They were the start of change..

My first New Wave album was The Crossing by Big Country. (It was the re-issued one, with a couple bonus tracks.) "Porrohman", one of the tracks on it, is still one of my favorite NW songs.
