Let's Discuss "We Built This City"

Postby dancingmonkey69 » Fri Nov 28, 2003 3:14 pm

First of all and most irritating, why does this song claim it built San Francisco on rock and roll if the song itself is not even rock and roll?

And secondly, what the hell is "hoopla"?

And, what is she saying, "my pony plays the mamba"?, or is she saying something else?

Sadly, I purchased the 45. But then again, I purchased Just The Two of Us by Grover Washington Junior. Confessions of a confused soul.

The lyric is actually:

"Marconi plays the mamba listen to the radio
Don't you remember
We built this city we built this city on rock an' roll"

-----
Starship mentions Marconi in the song because of his initial work on the radio.

This IS kind of a crummy song, and "Starship" were about as far from 'our music' as you could get, but this whole thing has gotten me to sittin' down and thinkin'..... take away the vocals, the production on this record probably isn't THAT far removed fro

Boisterous, jovial commotion or excitement.
Extravagant publicity: The new sedan was introduced to the public with much hoopla.
Talk intended to mislead or confuse.

Hmmmm.. very deep!

Grace Slick said that she was not embarrassed about “We Built This City” because “I didn’t write that shit!” She freely admitted that she squandered her money from the previous 20 years on alcohol and coke and cashed in order to pay her utilities.
