New Wave cover songs

Postby unguarded moment » Wed Dec 10, 2003 3:16 pm

I'm making a CD compilation of mostly 60's songs covered by New Wave/Alternative artists. I've got a pretty good start on it but I want to make it as comprehensive as possible. The list is as follows, and I would greatly appreciate any suggestions to add to it. If the original song is listed here but you know of a different cover, by all means tell me! The only thing I ask is that the original song is not too obscure, and definitely not too recent. A good example of this would be Aztec Camera's version of Van Halen's "Jump". I would also ask that the cover song be no recent than 90's, in other words, from 1977 to 1989. Thanks!

Sorry about the layout of my above post. The columns I originally made (with ample spaces) don't show up when the post is finally posted. Damn! Hope you can read it without too much difficulty.

I learn something new everyday!
I did not know that Naked Eyes were not the original performers of "Always something there to remind me".
But in looking in to it further I find that Dionne Warwick is not the origional performer either. That honor belong

Julian Cope did a version of 5 oclock world as well, on the 'My nation underground' album - - sometimes you see the album cover pop up on the opening page of this site....

Also, Soft Cell's 'Tainted Love' is a cover-version....
