New Wave Radio is back on KDHX St. Louis!

Postby patwolfe » Fri Dec 19, 2003 9:02 am

Hi everyone! My name is Pat and I am getting set to host a new weekly new wave/80's-90's alternative/synth-pop show, which will air Mondays from Noon to 2pm on KDHX-FM 88.1 in St. Louis. (website is KDHX.ORG)I have named the show "Medication" and I am looking for suggestions on cool, obscure bands from the era that I can feature on the show. I am already familiar with the obvious (Talking Heads, Flock of Seagulls, Go-Go's, etc), and I have spent the last couple of months scouring the record store looking for the stuff that never got a whole lot of airplay, even back then. I have found some gems, like OXO, the Jam, Gang of Four, etc. but I am always looking for more. If anyone can offer any suggestions, that would be really help me make the show a big success! [:D]

Find the WLIR / WDRE "Screamer of the Week" & "Shriek Of the Week" lists on the 'net.
That should also provide you with plenty of material.

Audio Paragon is pretty cool. There are a few Live365 stations that play some really good stuff:

New Wave Classics
Boyd Radio
Radio Aktivitat (all Kraftwerk)
New Wave Radio
and there's an all-Telex station too

Great suggestions! Thank you! I went to a place called the Record Exchange in south St. Louis and found some great stuff: The Comateens' Deal with It (1984), Flock of Seagulls, The Reels, Martha and the Muffins, and an excellent K-Tel compilation album ca

Good Luck with your new show!!
If it's really going to be a new wave/new music type 80's show, I would get rid of Johnny Cash & The Greg Kiln band, & Substitute something else.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Kinda wanted to honor the man in black though since he just passed away, and Hurt is an excellent song. He also does a cover of Personal Jesus on the same album which is kind of interesting. But I will probably cut tha

OK, here is the revised playlist for Jan. 5th...this is pretty firm and probably won't change much more:
Flock of seagulls--Transfer Affection
Dreaming--Blondie(Chris Stein's birthday 1-5-50...54 years old)
Fade to Grey--Visage(Midge Ure's old band, pl

Pat, that's an excellent playlist! "Transfer Affection" is actually
my all-time favorite A Flock of Seagulls tune! What a great way
to start off a show.

It is nice to see terra broadcast radio giving an 80s/New-Wave show a shot. There are SO many lost gems from the 80s that deserve to be heard.

If you haven't already, give my station - Flashback Alternatives - a shot (www.flashbackalternatives.com).
