VERY WIERD - a group called the Planets

Postby bpdp3 » Sat Jan 03, 2004 4:13 am

I'd like your help....

I just picked up for $1 an lp by a group called the Planets. I grabbed it because the cover is kind of cheesy early new-wavish and the release date is 1980.

Oddly enough it's on the Motown label (the group appears to be a bunch of young white guys). The music is so-so, worth about what I paid...certainly some early new-wave influenced production.

I don't see it mentioned on this site's album list. AMG does have note of it, and calls it 'Album Rock'. Personally I'd say it's more new-waveish than Journey-ish, but it's a judgement call.

I realize in that time-frame alot of normal AOR type groups tried to cash in on the new wave trend by marketing themselves that way.. I suspect that's the case with this, but I'm unsure.

Does anyone out there know what the hell this is??

By the way, on that same trip I found the Nine Ways to Win lp and the Adventures debut... both good!!
