Now that he's finally outgrown Barney and Sesame Street I've decided to make some mix CDs for my six year old of good music that is also lyrically safe. Here's what I've got so far....

Devo--Time Out For Fun, Peek-A-Boo, That's Good etc (damn I wish I could include Speedracer)
Ramones--Blitzkrieg Bop (I was playing this in the car and he said he'd heard it in a commercial, loves it) Spiderman
They Might Be Giants--Particle Man, Twisting etc
Negativland--Over The Hiccups
Was (Not Was)--Dad, I'm In Jail
Sparks--Angst In My Pants (of course, he thinks they're saying ants)
B52s--Rock Lobster
Kraftwerk--The Robots, Pocket Calculator etc
Cheap Trick--If You Want My Love

So basically I'm looking for goofball, almost novelty-type songs (preferably about robots, monsters, spaceships, superheroes, you know, typical kindergarten age boy stuff) Any suggestions?

What a cute idea!!

Jonathan Richman is good for this, off the top of my head there's "Martian Martians" "Ice Cream Man" and "Abominable Snowman in the Supermarket"

Myirwin, I disagree with "Shiny Shiny" -- great song but I don't think a 6-year-old

Hawiian Pups-Baby Judy
Talking Heads-Hey Now (Remix)
Fred Schneider and the shake society-Monster in my pants (He's too young to understand)
Barnes and Barnes-Fish Heads
Bruce Springstone

Jimbo, he says "face" the first time, "waste" the second time :)

All of their songs had sexual innuendos.

I think Men Without Hats album, Pop Goes the World would be a very good selection for kids.

Dead Kennedys - Holiday in Cambodia
Sid Vicious - My Way

Don't want him to get beat up on the playground listening to all that soft stuff, do you?
