While Gino Vanelli was not technically a New Wave artist, "Black Cars" did get substantial airplay on "new wave" stations, including WLIR, and clubs in the 80's.

Stars On 45 was not even a band. They were a studio concocted "production" employing some sound-alike musicians. Just because something is dancey and may have used a synth doesn't necessarily make it New Wave!

Oh, and Monsoon covered "Tomorrow Never Knows" too. Plus there was that whole "Sgt. Pepper Knew My Father" compilation...track list:

There was a very cool band out of Boston called The Buddy System (did some indie releases) that covered Baby You're A Rich Man.

Also, Smith (not really NW, more R&B) did Baby It's You (which the Beatles covered)

As for Money, that was also a tune the Beatles covered.

Did the Jam do another Beatles tune? The ripped off Taxman of course (brilliantly, on Start!) but I thought they did She Loves You or something. Not sure ... anyone?

Last thing I can think of is Dave Gregory of XTC doing either Strawberry Fields or I Am The Walrus. I've never heard it (I'd like to!).

In the definitely not NW department (IMHO), Pat Benatar did Helter Skelter.

The Beatles' #1 contribution to music was providing material for Joe Cocker to cover. He put more emotion into one verse than all of The Beatles' vocalists combined could manage during their entire career.
Now I think I am going to have to do a noise/experimental cover of Gino Vanelli song. [:D][:D]

I think there's one on Yoko's new album, 'Dakota Yellow Flower Scream Songs' a.k.a. 'Don't Forget I was Married to the Good Beatle'

On Yoko's album cover, she thanks Gino Vinnelli. Its true! It's true.

All You Need Is Love was covered by Anything Box.

Cristina covered Drive My Car.

Is Cristina new wave? She was on Ze Records & part of that whole No Wave scene.

I'm questioning everything now, shaken to the very foundations of my being! I don't want to get into some Gino Vanelli thing![}:)]
