Not new wave, not punk , not alternative ,not disco--ROCK--not even bands that could be considered New Wave--such as the Cars--just ROCK. Bands like Petty , Scorpians, Geils, BOC , ETC--What was the best???

Without much thought put into it Im thinking--Golden Earring--Twilight Zone.

I'm probably forgetting good rockers from the late 80s, but off the top of my head I'll go with "The Voice" by the Moody Blues. I'm sure I'll think of something more rocky later.

I'd have to think about that for awhile. There's probably about 3 hours worth of 80's rock tunes I secretly turn up if I'm alone in the car. Probably nothing recorded after 1984 or so, though.

Rush was great. I don't know if anyone else noticed the same, but in my school it was always the most seriously knuckle-dragging burnouts that loved them. I just always thought that was weird since Rush seemed to be operating on a much higher level than the other shit those guys liked.

[i]The Wall[/i] and Van Halen's best came out in the late 70's, so I'll go with Rush. "Subdivisions" was my anthem. On the other end of the decade, it's "Sweet Child O Mine" and "Welcome to the Jungle".

"Owner of a lonely heart" by Yes.... they are from the 70s but this song was released in the 80s.

I think ElectricLash nailed it. It's not necessarily my favorite, but AC/DC's "You Shook Me All Night Long" is arguably the best '80s rock song. It came out in 1980 and has been one of the most loved rock songs of all-time ever since. It continues, to this very day, capture the heart of nearly every 16 year old coming up in the USA, therefore maintaining its popularity well into its 3rd decade of glory.
