be dissected thoroughly...here

grant miller/ken laszlo/lou cern/eric fellini..
my younger siblings have huge collection on these genre.
(feels like i'm alone in my family on these new wave crusade...
but i have my cousins...quite interesting)

count me in as someone who also hadn't heard of Italo until a couple years ago, and although I don't have a lot of it, it IS addictive. 'electric workers stand out for me. There's a lot of silly stuff, but there is a helluva lot of catchy, inventive stuff.

I really hate it that F.R. David is labeled as a one hit wonder and I guess it's true but he's got 6 albums now, 4 of which are amazing, and the other two are have their highlights too. I often wonder why his other songs never made it as hits as some sound just as good as "Words" and some even sound better. Don't get me wrong, I love "Words". [:)]

If you guys get a chance, visit Flashback Records. They are the only label in my opinion who is still making 80's style Italo Disco and making it right. Check out their two compilations and the albums by Peter Arcade and Marc Fruttero.

By the way, in case anyone didn't know this, Italo Disco was a term coined by ZYX Records that caught on.

Italo has more variety than some might think partly because it changes style alot during the 80s. The earlier stuff from around 84 or before very much fits into the new wave synth pop of the period. 84 is actually now one of my very favourite Italo years (it's probably my favourite year in British new wave music too). I also like 85 and 86 a great deal as well but the style changes, it becomes a bit brighter and less introspective as later 80s music generally did.

Those who like the melodic pop side of new wave will likely enjoy the many discoveries that can be made in italo. Those who are more into the rock / punk side of some early new wave probably won't like it so much I guess.

I don't think many videos were made for italo music. Maybe if there had been more of an outlet for the music though more videos would have been made.

yeah, but even the ones that had videos got little exposure. Strange, because even the darker Italo songs have very strong melodies and are very mainstream

What about the weird Rockets,a hybrid of space /cosmic disco and electro pop sensibility?A band with Italian origin but hugely known in France!Their italo/electro direction in mid eightees had the signature of German producer Zeus B Held(Spear of Destiny,Gina X Performance).
