How bout Neils Innes' "Those French Girls" ? I think they were Irish though but couldn't help the name drop since they were such a cool group[:D]

I just found that LP by Those French Girls a few months back. I haven't had a chance to listen to it thoroughly yet, but it's in the pile!

Ollie, recently found the comp you mention as well as another one called "transmission 81-89 french cold wave" with pretty much to discover.

My problem is my internet connection, too low! I think that by September I will enter the world of DSL connections. Meanwhile, I'm keeping list of all you've mentioned to check them out. Thanks for keeping me up to the latest "news". [;)]

Firefall, pou vgaineis sthn A8ina ? I discovered Metro Decay through "ypervash" and a couple of other tracks from compilations here and there. I had never heard of the ones Frank-Chickens recommended...[:I]

A French band called Indochine was extremely popular in South America in the mid-80's when I lived there. They were pretty sh**-hot, actually. Had a couple of memorable tracks: "L'Aventurier", "Canary Bay", "Dizzidence Politik", "Salombo", "L'Opportuniste", and "Troisieme Sexe" Even had a nice live album- Live from the Zenith '86, I think it was called.

Would love to get my hands on some of their other material- they were really good.

Then, a French-Canadian bud of mine from HS gave me a tape once that had a song called "C'est comme ca"- pretty cool tune, but I don't know for the life of me who actually sang it.

Indochine, though...if you know them or can get/download some of their music, check them out- aside from the fact that I have no damn idea what they're singing, the music's quite good.

This is the greatest collection of obscure new wave from French scene from the 80's.

I like Jeanne Mas, her music and vocals. I guess she was Mylene Farmer's competition in the 80's
I don't speak any French, but I love Jeanne and French music in general

My favorite french new wave band, Indochine... my favorite songs by them ...'Leila' and 'L'aventeurer'....although I know they had loads of other hits. And of french language belgians... of course would be Arno with his hit, 'Putain, Putain'.
