They predated new wave by a minute, but why no love for Les Rockets? They were more Italo than New Wave, but still worth checking out.

<br>Ollie, recently found the comp you mention as well as another one called "transmission 81-89 french cold wave" with pretty much to discover.[/quote]

Where did you find this?

Ollie, a friend sent it to me by post. I think she has downloaded it through torrents.

I would dare to say (but I may be wrong) that Trisomie 21 were from Switzerland.

My votes goes to wonderful Mylene Farmer, for new wavers Telephone (listen to the song "Un autre monde", for instance) and, very very specially, to the greatest of them all and one of the greatest all- around 80's synth-pop composers, although he doesn't move from France. The legend, Etienne Daho.

He has lots of records, but no real antology of 80's best songs must miss "Tombee pour la France". Don't miss the clip, too.

Hello,
I'm just joining this web site.
I'm french and I was into New Wawe in the 80's.
So I have vinyls from French New wave.
Today, I'm at the office. Let me make - at home - a list of the french bands I used to listen at this time.

I also can tell you that Jeanne Mas has never belonged to the French New Wave scene. [xx(]
Jeanne Mas I would say is "de la New wave commerciale pour le grand public - les beaufs donc" or "de la soupe" [:D]
So please, do not add "Jeanne mas" to the French New wave scene therwise I could think that I'm dreaming !!

See you soon.
Hug!

hmm, I think Jeanne Mas is great, at least her fist 2 lp's that I own

...there are people here who mention overly commercial Cindy Lauper and Thompson Twins, I've seen their names in a few posts. Now if those are new wave, than Jeanne Mas is definitely New Wave. Anyway, I like her music and her voice even though it might be a bit of a stretch.

And Blitzboy.. yeah Mylene Farmer is fabulous too, and also thanx for Etienne Daho link, cool song [:)]

Hi, InvisibleMan. You have solid tastes, if you enjoyed Daho... [;)]Arnold Turboust have been co-composer and programmer in most of the best Daho's records.

I'm happy you enjoyed him. I'm not French and have no idea why he almost never tours out (I live in Barcelona, 250 miles form the border, and never came or comes here), and that may be a reason for him being underated: but he is very good.

Sorry Bob, I'm not a user of sharing sites, P2P, etc. My computer skills are not very well developed plus I am old school, and still prefer to touch the product, I mean the record. So I have no ******* idea of how to share my Etienne Daho's lp's or cds. Anyway, he is very popular in France and quite in the rest of Europe, so it may not be difficult to find his music in the net.

If you don't find it and are very interested, let me know. Maybe it's time for me to learn.

I'll check this Yousendit thing...

Anyway, for people interested in Daho's music, I suggest his three first records ("Mythomane", "La notte la notte" and "Pop satori") plus one of his lasts, "Reevolution".

You can listen and see a lot in his site www.etiennedaho.com If you go to "discography", you can watch and listen quite a few songs.

lol watching this clip, I just realized how much Noe Willer looks like Jon Lovitz. Supposedly this song Toi, Femme Publique is about a prostitute [:D]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQUpDRGEYNM

I also like Claudia Phillips - Cache ta Joie, cool video clip too

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oomowzvJU-8

and nobody mentioned Marc Lavoine, I think a very good singer. And video for his song C'est La Vie is really special

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VluRp4PbmEw

and another one from Marc Lavoine and Catherine Ringer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rit-krX_Hqc

sorry none of these are really NW, but just some very good chanson that I like [:D]

Here's Marc Seberg. I was in France from '88 to '90, and most of my friends there listened to UK bands such as the Chameleons, James, And Also The Trees, The Wolfhounds, The Waterboys, The Opposition and The Lucy Show. As for French artists, they only ever mentioned Etienne Daho and Marc Seberg.
