Are these valid catagories firstly, and second what bands fall into them? I've heard the terms used frequently..

I bring it up because the term "Emo" is used all the time now, when it originated in the 80's to describe two bands that sound nothing like the bands of today the term is applied too

Kingofpain; Darkwave is a wave that has all the synth structure of new wave, synthpop and ebm(electronic body music).. It's a combination of gothic rock and industrial with synthpop. The most known bands are Apoptygma Berzerk(which can be categorized as a

Darkwave can also be thought of as a more melodic industrial....just from listening to it, you can tell how much these artists were influenced by industrial. their material, however, is more dance-body oriented. still has that "dark" edge of goth, but it

If darkwave is also known as EBM, it can be the equivalent to epci trance with gothy vocals. But thats just my opinion.

Hi!
That's difficult... I always thought Dark Wave is something like "Deine Lakaien", that means dark synthesizer music.
VNV Nation and Apoptygma Berzerk are NOT Dark Wave, in my opinion.
Recently that kind of music is called "future pop", at least h

fear of ghosts,

Clan of Xymox are awesome ! i would also add Dead Can Dance...they always shone when they'd combine their goth-influenced vibes with unusual instruments and other cultural influences. they'd use sitars and all sorts of other instrume

I do agree that Xymox was a pioneer in Goth but more of the Synth-Goth sound. I think the Goth bands that most goth bands look up to our Bauhaus and Sisters of Mercy. I guess you can also throw The Cure and Siouxsie & The Banshees in the pioneer wagon a

Fearofghosts,I have to agree with you about Clan of Xymox.I have been listening to that band since 1985 ! A very progressive band that was at one time creating music on totally originally ground !
