I love it when the advertisers obviously haven't listened to the words of the song (The Cruise line using "Lust for Life" has already been mentioned).

My favorite: Recently, some SUV manufacturer (Dodge, I think, although I'm not sure) ran commercials

Just saw some car commercial the other night that played an instrumental riff directly lifted from "Peaches" by The Stranglers, with its throbbing bass and shuffle beat with hi-hat. Couldn't help but snicker at the fact that the song used for inspiration

I'm starting to wonder if some of these advertising types are not also in on the joke.
First of all, you have to know about these songs in the first place to even consider using them. If you know of the song, you probably also know what it is about. Also

I wouldn't be the slightest bit suprised if the Bongos "Numbers With Wings" ends up used in a maxi-pad commercial - "I've Got a Number . . . With Wings!"

Since so many DEVO songs are showing up in commercials lately, I wouldn't be surprised to hear "Be Stiff" promoting Viagra!

I know it totally sucks when your very favorite band or genre becomes appropriated by the mainstream. Buuuut, we live in a media cycle where every fifteen to twenty years, what's old is new. By my count, we're right back to 1983, which ain't a bad thing

I remember seeing a shampoo commercial using Thomas Dolby's "She Blinded Me With Science", & a car commercial using The B-52's "Roam". Very strange.
Although I thought the Lene Lovich "New Toy" ad for Target was pretty kool...[:I]
