Any good Italian-language 80's songs? What do you know and like?
Stylewise anything goes, synthpop, disco, new wave even aor.
I think even the commercial San Remo stuff would be considered very obscure to most US/UK listeners
I came across this on youtube, just loved it..never heard it before
For a long time I woke up to that song when I used my cell phone as a clock.

Alice's''Summertime beach''is a song from a great figure of Italian cultural life Franco Battiato,a philosopher, proto avant gardist experimentalist, writer and also minimal new waver in the early 80s.He also produced her whole lp,and the song also exists in his incedible solo synth pop lp''La Voce del Padrone''.

Francesco Salvi - "C'e da Spostare Una Macchina"
Goofy and cheesy, but when I lived there in 1989, it was being played EVERYWHERE, and it's what I think of when I hear "Italy 80s".

fun Eurobeat tune, I never heard it before...
I like this slow duet of Raf and Umberto Tozzi from 1987, two nice Italian pop singers
and then there were Ricchi e Poveri, cheesy Italian version of ABBA, I don't speak language but I find myself singing along to many of their tunes, Ma Ma Ma Maria Ma..crazy! [:D]
and Claudia Mori, another beautiful woman, wife of Adriano Celentano.
Their 82 duet takes me to cloud number 9, especially when Celentano's part kicks in [:D]
Lately I've been finding a lot of great New Wave music that originated in various urban scenes in Italy. Like Italo Disco, it wasn't just a copy of the Anglo-American New Wave sounds; it was also an evolution of the genre, having a unique "made in Italy" sound. Sometimes the lyrics were sung in Italian, and sometimes in English. When in English, the pronunciation and grammar was often more than a little bit "off," which—again, very much like Italo Disco—imparts an unintended charm.
Until the last 10 years or so, it seems most of the Italian New Wave records & tapes never made their way very far outside of Italy, or even much beyond the bands' hometowns. Even now, selected songs are only just beginning to trickle onto compilation CDs, mostly on Italian labels with limited distribution.
I'm still learning and diving ever deeper into this music, but I thought I'd share some of my favorite finds so far.
Much of what I like comes from fairly current compilations on the labels Spittle, Astroman.it, and Mannequin.
