Strangest most surprising place...

New Wave/Punk music, culture, genres, memories. '80s revivalism and other relevant topics.

Watching the Cubs on TV last year, and between innings they of course have music as an intro or outro to the commercial break... and 'Everyday Is Like Sunday' comes on! There's nothing like hearing Bob Brenly talk about Morrissey between innings. Not exactly new wave, but definitely strange.

I was flipping channels and and just about to pass through an episode of Cold Case when lo and behold, the classic strums of "Love Will Tear Us Apart" are playing. Wow. And it's the original as well. I guess it was a flashback scene to the early 80s.

I was in Old Navy once and I heard Angel 07, I think, or it was another song with about the same level of near obscurity (well, you know, obscure for regular folks).

There's a locally owned grocery store here that's well liked for their christian ideals (they're owned by christians and don't sell alcohol.) It's right by my house so I go there a lot, lately they've been playing nothing but New Wave.

Last time I was there I heard Thompson Twins - Lies, and a co-worker of mine went there and came back freaking out cause they played "New Toy" by Lene Lovich which he said he's never heard in public.

I was at Disneyland the other day...when we got off the tram to the entrance..Overkill by Men at Work was blasting over the speakers and then at Downtown Disney later in the day...heard Human League's Fascination and Duran Duran's Save A Prayer with the new Depeche Mode song thrown in for good measure

That is absolutely awesome. Not just the airing but the in-studio dancing to it as well! Incredible.

I did a triple take while shopping in a local Waldbaum's when the over head muzak or whatever played 1972 era "Jet Boy" by The New York Dolls, a song that was never a hit from an album that was never even played on radio

The idea of the muzak Sex Pistols has always been a running gag with me and my wife even though we'd yet to hear such a thing.
