I heard Talk Talk's It's My Life at a small cafe while waiting to take a ferry to visit the Tremiti Islands off the Italian coast way back in 1984.

A few weeks ago, I was at a Harley shop here in SLC and heard Depeche Mode's People are People on the overhead speakers. I didn't think much if it until I saw this thread - who knew that bikers were DP fans? [:p]

Cruel to be Kind - Dave Edmonds

Nick Lowe had the hit with that song not Dave unless it was a cover version.

As for over here, it's the usual bland selection you here all the time:

Depece Mode - Just Can't Get Enough
Soft Cell - Tainted Love
Blondie - Heart of Glass or Call me
Duran Duran - Rio or Girls on Film

Fill in the blanks for your top ten songs that you don't want to hear again in a while.

^^^ Yes, Frank Chickens, I really mean Nick Lowe, sorry, my bad, and I have the right artist posted at the top of the page too... ^^^

Was at BJs (not Blow Jobs, get your minds outta the gutter [;)]), which is a fine pizza/pasta/bar-pub grub place that is also a micro brewery--they do brew up a few good fine brews too, for our scooter club meeting on Sunday, and was quite surprised to hear the '80s selection that was being played:

Right when I walked in: China Crisis - Working With Fire And Steel (just in time to hear the f-word!)
Split Enz - I Got You
Elvis Costello & The Attractions - Every Day I Write The Book
The Cure - Friday I'm In Love
Echo And The Bunneymen - Back Of Love
The Style Council - Internationalists
The Thompason Twins - Hold Me Now
the beat - Save It For Later
The Clash - Rock The Casbah
The Psychedelic Furs - Pretty In Pink
New Order - Bizare Love Triangle
Blondie - Rapture
Robert Palmer - Simply Irresistible
Rockpile - Teacher, Teacher

There were others I can't remember, as well as those old rock standards... There are BJs all over the Southern CAlifornia Area and Northern, as well as Arazona, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Kentucky, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Texas. More info: http://www.bjsbrewhouse.com/

Great tunes (at least in the Burbank location!), food, and brew (micro)--check it out!

Anybody catch the Lakers-Spurs game last night? For the half-time commerical intros and outros, they were using The Killers' version of "Shadowplay". Maybe not technically new wave, but still, to hear Joy Division once-removed during an NBA game is pretty weird.

During one of the first Mets games at Shea Stadium this year, Ryan Church came up to bat and when he reached base, Reptile by The Church started playing. Needless to say they dropped that (probably since hardly anybody, including maybe Ryan himself, got the reference). I remember hearing Spacehog played at a Florida Marlins game a few years ago.

I've noticed a lot of pharmacy mentions in this thread. I used to hear some surprising things in an Eckerd here on Staten Island. The most surprising was probably Down on the Corner by Johnny Marr and the Healers. I also used to hear Above the Clouds by Paul Weller at an old retail job I had.

I was in the Outback steakhouse in the Cincinnati airport last week and heard "The Lady Don't Mind" by The Talking Heads. An old favorite that I hadn't heard for a while.

I was having lunch in a Jack In The Box (fast food joint) and soon realized it was nothing but 80's over the p.a.

Duran Duran - Wild Boys
Blondie - Hardest Part
Depeche Mode - Just Can't Get Enough

and more!

Over the PA just now in the 4th inning of the Red Sox-Orioles game at Camden yards...You Spin Me Around. WTF?! If Budverge was reponsible for this, we're gonna need his NWO card.

...okay, he just redeemed himself with Beautiful World in the top of the 5th. Good job Bud.

^^^ Funny Blir! ^^^

OK, went into Del Taco this weekend, Saturday actually, and sat down to eat inside...

First up:

Peter Gabriel - In Your Eyes (OK a good groove - not a song I expect to be played at a Del Taco fast food joint!)
Then some Coldplay-sounding tune, might have been them... [?]
UB-40 - their cover of Eric Donaldson's Rocksteady classic: "The Way You Do the Things You Do" (originally by The Temptations) from their Labour of Love II album.
Then some solo chick--I don't know... modern with a hip-hop groove.
The Thompson Twins - Hold Me Now
Some other hip-hop tune.
Re-Flex - The Politics of Dancing
Some modern tune again... I left at this point.

Seems who ever is programming their music does an '80s flashback tune and then a modern one, etc.

It was nice hearing those new wavey tunes! [:)]

A few good ones lately...

Last night at Pavillions/Vons buying pumkins, I heard Big Country's Fields of Fire.

A few weekes back while eating lunch at Islands (high-end Burgers) I couldn't believe my ears with The beat's (English that is...) Ackee 1-2-3, that blew my mind as well as some Cure, Echo, New Order, Depeche Mode trown in with the modern stuff of Coldplay, Editors, Killers, et al.

I'll have to find my notes from Legoland, yes, I have to write them down, or I forget! [:p]
