Rediscovering CDs you forgot about

Postby Jason² » Mon Mar 15, 2004 1:54 pm

So, I've been (slowly) going through my CD collection trying to digitize as much as I can for my shiny new iPOD. I've gotten through most of the bands I have 3 or more CDs from and now it's to the 3 and under - and I can't believe how many albums I'm listning to that I just plum dropped from my CD rotation. Todays re-revelation is:

<IMG SRC="http://www.townsend-records.co.uk/acatalog/icrevenge.jpg">
The Inspiral Carpets "Revenge Of The Goldfish". I had totally forgotten how much I love(d) this record (and their others for that matter).

There were a bunch of bands that all came out around the same time that I couldn't keep tabs on (New Fast Automatic Daffodils, The Farm, Inspiral Carpets, Happy Mondays, Primal Scream, Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine, Neds Atomic Dustbin, The Shamen, etc) and I've got most of their albums of that period - but I just haven't reached for them lately.

But, wow! This album is just brilliant. Had the same experience with Neds Atomic Dustbin's "God Fodder" - I think I can listen to "Green Cell Grey" over and over without needing to ever hear another song.

Anyone else have this sort of experience?

I would actually say that Operation Ivy's "Energy" is one of those albums...I won't listen to it for years...then for reasons unknown I'll just listen to it...and remember how much an amazing album that is...stands the test of time...

I have recently rediscovered the two post-Limahl Kajagoogoo/Kaja albums, and the first couple of albums by The Dickies. Great stuff!

Oh yeah, plus a ran across a cassette of "Love and Dancing" by League Unlimited Orchestra/Human League. That one took

I had a similar experience when I bought my 10 gb ipod a year and a half ago. Now I have trouble finding the time to add new music to it - and delete songs to make room for more. As far as rediscovering music I am having that experience again but in a d

Yes, Neds Atomic Dustbin! Great stuff. I liked the Happy Mondays also! Lately I've been rediscovering a band called "Felt" that I ignored back in the day.

The iPod is the greatest invention for re-discovering old CDs in your collection. And I agree that the 10 gig one is a bummer after you discover its usefulness. I'm virtually out of space and I haven't even gotten through a quarter of my collection!

I've also rediscovered my love for the Dickies.
And last week I stumbled across an album by The Primitives circa 1988. Completely forgot how much I loved it. (On the down side, it also reminded me wayyyyy too much of high school.)

I'm recently rediscovering Graham Parker. I had stopped listening to him when "Mona Lisa's Sister" was released, but on a whim picked up the new CD, "Your Country". I was very impressed with how good it was, and now I can't get enough of his stuff, even

Mmmmm, I too have rediscovered The Dickies a few months back. Great, fun stuff.

Recently I dusted off a few neglected discs of the defunct NYC based post-punk act Band Of Susans. Of the 2 I have 'Love Agenda'('89) has been on repeat these past couple o
