Vintage KROQ Tapes-Volume#38 (from 1992)
----------------------------------------
Here's another tape of KROQ from '92 or '93.
There's about 10 minutes of WDRE in there...sorry.
I liked KROQ back then for all the remixes they played. Being from Long Island, I found WLIR/WDRE was not very generous when it came to alternate versions...so you'll notice that much of this tape consists of alternate versions and remixes. I found them refreshing when I had the chance to hear KROQ while visiting the left coast.

Here's Tape#38:

And here's another....
Vintage KROQ Tapes-Volume#39 (from 1993)
----------------------------------------
More KROQ from '93.
I made a lot of business trips to LA in that year...
It was refreshing to hear as compared to
WDRE on the East coast.

Thanks Roqqer, that was very cool. I only have a vague memory of DJ "Wild Bill." They (KROQ) must have hired him from a temp agency 'cause I don't think he lasted very much on the station. However, I really loved hearing the Ice House song "Taking the Town." I hadn't heard that one in a couple of decades. By the way, do you have any recordings that have the song "See You On The Other Side" by Brian Briggs?

Thanks Roqqer. These KROQ shows are great. I would like to know if you have any more tapes from 82-83?

Hey, I posted several old KROQ cassettes from 78-90. Bunch of Rodney shows and one of Frazier Smith in fine form. I think you'll find that Brian Briggs song on the KROQ May 1981 cassette. There is a 4 Hour+ Rodney show celebrating his 4th year anniversary on the Roq. Its got alot of classic stuff.

[:0] Thanks Riff, truly classic KROQ. Frazier is indeed in fine form.
As for Rodney (you're going to scream) but I never got into him too much - he's voice was kinda drab.
I actually had a midnight snack with him (and with about 5 other girls I was with) at some restaurant in Pasadena or Hollywood - I can't remember, after a Duran Duran Video Dance Party! I was a kid so I didn't know at the time that the DJs at KROQ were practically broke 'cause they didn't get paid much if any. But at the time I was a bit dumbfounded that he didn't pay for any of the girls' order. I didn't want him to pay my bill but I was thinking to myself - here's a guy who's famous but is God Damn Cheap!
I guess he's OK. Anyway, thanks for the flashbacks!

Hey Lunatic,
Glad you enjoyed the flashbacks. Do me favor and leave your Rodney story as a comment on my blog and I'll post it under one of the cassettes. I was hoping to get stories like that. I always listened to Rodney's shows because of the music he chose to play and he usually had guests stopping in. I liked the local call in questions from the audience like when Blondie was in the studio and some guy calls in and asks Debbie Harry for a pair of her panties and everybody in the studio busts up. I was hoping to get a comment from someone saying hey I was that guy who asked her that. But I think the main thing about Rodney is how he helped launch a lot of peoples careers for probably nothing. You could have said lets start a band and he would have played your record. Thats what happened with the Go-Gos.
Have Fun,
Riff

Hey Motnow,
Got your files and THANKS! Added them to my collection. Glad to see I wasn't the only one to record and hang onto those tapes. I hope there are others that read this and share their classic stuff.
