Roqqer, I had the insanest KROQ deja vu last Wednesday night when I got into LA for a short visit. I hooked up the Pod to the rental car stereo and fired a couple of your 1982 recordings. What...a...F*CKING...TRIP!!! Flashback city.I met up with some old friends Thursday night and played one of episodes as well. The Clash's "Should I Stay or Should I Go" with all the drop-ins from the Jack Webb movie, The DI, had us in complete stiches. Big thanks man.

Roqqer, could you please do me the very kind favor of running down all of the vintage KROQ segments you've made available to us so far, and providing the air dates? I seem to be missing some days of the month. Meaning, I only have months and years for some, not the actual date. Thanks in advance!

<br>Hey, I posted several old KROQ cassettes from 78-90. Bunch of Rodney shows and one of Frazier Smith in fine form. I think you'll find that Brian Briggs song on the KROQ May 1981 cassette. There is a 4 Hour+ Rodney show celebrating his 4th year anniversary on the Roq. Its got alot of classic stuff.

I'm kinda lame when it comes to files and such. How do I convert the RAR file into mp3 or wave?

These are the recordings I've posted.
7-25-82
7-26-82
8-15-83
8-16-83
10-26-86
1-?-84
5-26-83
9-?-85
9-1-86
1-?-84
7-31-84
11-?-85

As you can see there are some tapes where I have no idea what the exact day was that I made the recording.
When I made these recordings I never envisioned the possibility of sharing them with hundreds of new wave fans.

Hi Spaz,
If you are using a Windows machine you may already have WinZip installed. If that's the case download one of the RAR files to your desktop and double click it and WinZip will decompress it to an MP3. If you don't have WinZip here is a free program that should work:

Yeah, after you started posting these recordings I started getting really pissed at myself for being so shortsighted and not recording KROQ back then. Then again, at the time I didn't have a good sound system - but nevertheless I still wished I had. Of course none of us imagined we'd have such highly advanced computers - 'cause back then all I remember was Radio Shack's Commodore 64 - anyone remember that - with a cassette tape as the software

Thanks to all for sharing these great pieces or radio history. I've been downloading a pile of them and slowly making my way through them - great stuff!

Myself, I was in Ontario, Canada during the 80's so it's interesting to hear what was happening in other places during that time. I have to consider myself pretty fortunate to have been able to tune into the great CFNY-FM 102.1 in Toronto as that was a station right up there with KROQ and WLIR. Many of you probably have heard of the website dedicated to that station, but if not you can find it at:

www.thespiritofradio.ca

That website used to have a bunch of airchecks that you could listen to on-line and download. Sadly, I believe those had to be taken down due to RIAA complaints to the website owner.

Earlier this year I started a blog dedicated to a show that the program director from CFNY during its 80's heyday, David Marsden, currently does every Thursday and Friday night (7pm to midnight Easthern time) on another small Toronto station called 94.9 The Rock. The show is available worldwide at:

www.therock.fm

I strongly suggest you take the time to check his show out if you enjoy these old playlists. David takes a base of 80's nostalgia, mixes in 70's and 60's, adds a dash of 90's and even new releases. The focus is definitely on Canadian content (due to Canadian radio regulations!), but includes a very wide array of artists. Note that other than David's shows, the station is a pretty run of the mill top 40 classic rock station.

If you want to get and idea of what gets played, check out the many playlists that I and some co-contributers have posted to my blog at:

Great! Thanks so much for that. For the purpose of creating unique titles for iTunes/iPod use, the only issue arises with the two January 1984 segments, which will have to be named 1-?-84A and 1-?-84B, I suppose. I guess that'll work.

Thanks again! You ROQ!
