Thanks all. Great links. Being a lifelong Pittsburgh native until 7 years ago I can vouch for a lot of what DJ Bird said.

a)Most people from Pittsburgh have uttered the phrase "I partied way too much that night"

b) Millvale still looks the same. There's probably one of Junior Dinkus' progeny sitting on a park bench listening to polkas right now.

C) WDVE's playlist probably still hasn't changed.[:(!] I'm sure that's what made the station so attractive to many of us at the time. If you did not live within 5 miles of Carnegie-Mellon University you could not pick up the only alternatives to the public stations, namely WRCT (where NWO's own Jim2 was a DJ) and a community-owned station WYEP.

I'm resurrecting this old topic because it is what drew me to this site in the first place (Google search for WXXP). I have about 3 hours of recordings off the air of WXXP to share. If roqqer is still around, I'd love to have his WXXP recording as well, and hope to share with other WXXP fans who may be here.

I was at both WXXP reunion shows (2005 and 2007) and the nostalgia was off the charts. WXXP and WLIR listeners will recognize why I chose my username. [8D]

Thanks roqqer! I'm having technical difficulties getting my files uploaded to 4shared. (I think my employer is blocking file sharing traffic, as I can download fine, but not upload. It was working for me last night from home. I should have my files available tonight.

I have a procedural/rules question regarding digital files. I have 3 recordings from WXXP, 2 of which I created from my own tapes in mp3 format, and the third I received from someone else that is in .m4a format. Do I need to convert it to mp3 before sharing, or is m4a (AAC) format acceptable? I don't have any conversion software readily available.

Here are my WXXP recordings. Just a small disclaimer: The 2 mp3s are cassette recordings I made as a poor college student, so space was my primary concern. Thus, there aren't too many commercials, just some station IDs and short commercials, but some nice gems nonetheless. Enjoy!

So, no more former WXXP listeners out there, who may have old tape recordings laying around? I can't get enough of this stuff!

My wife was a part-time DJ there. I'll have to see if she has any tapes saved.

Dare2be, in regards to the one file that is an m4a, it is easy to convert the file to .mp3. I found that iTunes converted the file very quickly, and dbPoweramp is another program that converts files like those as well.

These are absolute GOLD dare2be! By the way, I believe that tape b (maybe tape a too if you recorded them at the same time) was recorded on July 16, 1988. The DJ kept saying how it would be near or at 100 that day and it got to 103 on July 16th. Thought you might like that tidbit of info. Great tapes though. It was awesome to hear my all time favorite station again. Just a side note, there is a station that, in my opinion, has the same spirit of Double X. Check them out sometime. It's 105.3 The Spy out of Oklahoma City.

Thanks, Lounatic! I had forgotten about this forum for a while after no one responded for a few weeks...The 1st half of file "b" is definitely from July 16, 1988. File "a" and the rest of file "b" are random clips/recordings from multiple dates. Glad you enjoyed them!
