Sherry Kean: "I Want You Back" (1983)

Always get a yen for this one every fall. Standing ovation to the lister who follows this with a vid from a band who'd finish well inside the six degrees of Kev Bacon, where Sherry's concerned.

Not new wave, Powder Blues Band - Doin' It Right

April Wine would cover it, but I prefer the original. Got this song and "Thirsty Ears" stuck in my head just over a month ago. Ended up buying their "First Decade/Greatest Hits" from an HMV downtown Toronto. Noticed a copy of the B.B. Gabor cd sitting in the rack, just had to pick that up too.

You mean like Blue Rodeo, for example?

Standing O! Kean's pre-solo band The Sharks split into two camps: Sherry and a plus-one dove into her solo career, the other two formed Blue Rodeo with Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor.

FWIW, there's one other correct answer I can think of, and it's a total new wave connection. Sherry also recorded under her given name Sherry Huffman, and provided distinctive backing vocals on Blue Peter's "Chinese Graffiti" in 1982, the year before that band's signature "Don't Walk Past."

Here's "Chinese Graffiti," by Blue Peter. Vintage live clip - without Sherry Kean/Huffman - that looks from 1983 or 1984:

I still pull out my copy of the Insanity lp and give it a spin, from time to time.

Ha ha! I never would have considered Haywire new wave! They had some big pop hits in Canada though, like Bad Bad Boy and Black and Blue.
