I agree. Most (well, all) of their stuff is very '80s and not new wave at all, but "Thin Red Line" is the first thing I heard by them and it's a great track. Wish more of their stuff was like this.

No thread on Canadian music can exist without a mention of The Payola$:

How about a Victoria, British Columbia band?

Pink Steel - Some Of The Things That You Do

<object height="28" width="335"><param value="http://www.divshare.com/flash/audio_embed?data=YTo2OntzOjU6ImFwaUlkIjtzOjE6IjQiO3M6NjoiZmlsZUlkIjtzOjg6IjE0NzIwMjgzIjtzOjQ6ImNvZGUiO3M6MTI6IjE0NzIwMjgzLWEzNCI7czo2OiJ1c2VySWQiO3M6NzoiMTY4MTUwNCI7czoxMjoiZXh0ZXJuYWxDYWxsIjtpOjE7czo0OiJ0aW1lIjtpOjEzMDQyNjk1MDk7fQ==&autoplay=default" name="movie"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed wmode="transparent" height="28" width="335" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" src="http://www.divshare.com/flash/audio_embed?data=YTo2OntzOjU6ImFwaUlkIjtzOjE6IjQiO3M6NjoiZmlsZUlkIjtzOjg6IjE0NzIwMjgzIjtzOjQ6ImNvZGUiO3M6MTI6IjE0NzIwMjgzLWEzNCI7czo2OiJ1c2VySWQiO3M6NzoiMTY4MTUwNCI7czoxMjoiZXh0ZXJuYWxDYWxsIjtpOjE7czo0OiJ0aW1lIjtpOjEzMDQyNjk1MDk7fQ==&autoplay=default"></embed></object>

Later on Pete Campbell from Pink Steel formed a power-pop outfit called The Wardells

The Wardells - Be Stupid

<object height="28" width="335"><param value="http://www.divshare.com/flash/audio_embed?data=YTo2OntzOjU6ImFwaUlkIjtzOjE6IjQiO3M6NjoiZmlsZUlkIjtzOjg6IjE0NzIwMzAwIjtzOjQ6ImNvZGUiO3M6MTI6IjE0NzIwMzAwLTFjYiI7czo2OiJ1c2VySWQiO3M6NzoiMTY4MTUwNCI7czoxMjoiZXh0ZXJuYWxDYWxsIjtpOjE7czo0OiJ0aW1lIjtpOjEzMDQyNjk1MzA7fQ==&autoplay=default" name="movie"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed wmode="transparent" height="28" width="335" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" src="http://www.divshare.com/flash/audio_embed?data=YTo2OntzOjU6ImFwaUlkIjtzOjE6IjQiO3M6NjoiZmlsZUlkIjtzOjg6IjE0NzIwMzAwIjtzOjQ6ImNvZGUiO3M6MTI6IjE0NzIwMzAwLTFjYiI7czo2OiJ1c2VySWQiO3M6NzoiMTY4MTUwNCI7czoxMjoiZXh0ZXJuYWxDYWxsIjtpOjE7czo0OiJ0aW1lIjtpOjEzMDQyNjk1MzA7fQ==&autoplay=default"></embed></object>

Actually the first Wardells recording I know of was from a Victoria music scene sampler cassette in 1986.

The Wardells - Laughing Instead

<object height="28" width="335"><param value="http://www.divshare.com/flash/audio_embed?data=YTo2OntzOjU6ImFwaUlkIjtzOjE6IjQiO3M6NjoiZmlsZUlkIjtzOjg6IjE0NzIwMzM1IjtzOjQ6ImNvZGUiO3M6MTI6IjE0NzIwMzM1LTliNSI7czo2OiJ1c2VySWQiO3M6NzoiMTY4MTUwNCI7czoxMjoiZXh0ZXJuYWxDYWxsIjtpOjE7czo0OiJ0aW1lIjtpOjEzMDQyNjk1NDk7fQ==&autoplay=default" name="movie"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed wmode="transparent" height="28" width="335" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" src="http://www.divshare.com/flash/audio_embed?data=YTo2OntzOjU6ImFwaUlkIjtzOjE6IjQiO3M6NjoiZmlsZUlkIjtzOjg6IjE0NzIwMzM1IjtzOjQ6ImNvZGUiO3M6MTI6IjE0NzIwMzM1LTliNSI7czo2OiJ1c2VySWQiO3M6NzoiMTY4MTUwNCI7czoxMjoiZXh0ZXJuYWxDYWxsIjtpOjE7czo0OiJ0aW1lIjtpOjEzMDQyNjk1NDk7fQ==&autoplay=default"></embed></object>

Too bad the Modernettes never actually got around to recording this song in the studio, it kicks some ass!
