This clip is taken from the 1980 Dennis Hopper film "Out of the Blue", filmed at the Japanese Hall in Vancouver.

Low Fun was a Victoria, BC new wave band. You can listen to a few of their songs at cbc http://radio3.cbc.ca/#/bands/Low-Fun

This is the only recording I know of, but I'm not too familiar with Low Fun (which I'm only guessing is a play on the Chinese insult "lo fan").

This track Use Your Imagination simply oozes early 80's new wave.

Hey, I like the Spoons, Strange Advance and Men Without Hats as much as the next guy, but there was some pretty cool underground music in Canada in the late 70's and 80's too! Broaden your horizons!

If you're going to pull that crap, here's Lee Aaron...definitely not new wave but timeless (1984) Canadian kitsch!

I thought we should do this 1986 classic from 54-40, just because there are still people out there who think this was a Hootie and the Blowfish original. It wasn't. Get over it.

<iframe width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/fMZSSVt355I" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The band 54-40 takes its name from James Polk's 1844 presidential campaign slogan "Fifty-four Forty or Fight!". Polk's plan was to claim and go to war over the entire Oregon territory for the United States, as up to that point the United States and the United Kingdom had a joint claim over the the region west of the Rocky Mountains and between 42° North and 54°40' North (the southern boundary of Russia's Alaska territory).

The British negotiated with Polk after he became president, and the boundary between the U.S. and British Canada was established at 49° North.

Otherwise, Vancouver would be part of the USA right now and it would be the Vancouver Yankees playing for the Stanley Cup.
