This is an early punk recording by Active Dog from here in no fun city. Good Filthy Fun was the b-side to their Rat Race 7" in 1979.

And now for something completely different, a little 2 tone from the b-sides...Underground Radio Stars was released on the Vancouver Independence LP in 1980.

Infamous Scientists were a great band from Victoria, BC that crafted punk songs out of syncopated rhythms and heavy bass. I realy wish I had a better recording of this fantastic song, Noise 'N' Rhythm, but there were only 500 copies of the 7" EP. This is a live recording.

I post this as a curiousity...a punk band from Kelowna, BC from 1980. Population 59,000 in the 1978 census. Kelowna? Where the fuck is that? I know it's in British Columbia, but anything east of Commercial Drive is theoretical to me.

I'm trying to take my mind off of hockey.

This youtube posting of The Robins is also very exciting to me, harkening back to my time on the east coast. Mark Gaudet from the Robins went on to Eric's Trip, one of the east coast's many great grunge bands. Again, hard to imagine a punk band in isolated, tiny Moncton, New Brunswick (a great town, the girl to guy ratio is about 5:1 and they've got that casual French attitude to sex).

Sons Of Freedom were definitely not new wave, releasing some extremely loud hard rock in the late 80s and early 90s...and yes, another Vancouver act!

This mix of their classic Mona Lisa on youtube almost sounds danceable!!! Having heard this live I almost can't believe it's the same song!

There'd better be wine and desserts in that offer too. Can't buy me with an MP3. [:)]

Kidding. Thanks, but I have it.

I'm not gonna lie, I love Canadian 80's music. One year when I worked a specific job I used to listen to a Canadian 80's internet radio station and I heard all kinds of great music I'd never heard before, including Honeymoon Suite, which I love. I'm sure all of it was "pop radio" music but there's always stuff like Haywire, Platinum Blonde, Gowan, Sherry Kean, One to One, Luba, The Box and Chilliwack, to name a few. Here's another I would have never known about if not for that station:

and this last one is an super creepy song and one of my all time favorites:
