Nine Ways To Win - band name?

Hey, I have a Nine Ways to Win Lp which has always been one of my favorites.
Anyway I've got a question-- Does anyone know where their name came from? What the heck does it mean? Are there indeed exactly nine ways to win? [:D]

It comes from a type of win feature on a UK fruit machine that was around at the time in the early 80s. If you got three of the selected symbol (usually the manufacturer's logo) in any of the nine places a prize would be rewarded - usually 30p.

Also explains the name of their previous band - Random Hold.

Remember those machines well from my youth in the mid 80s,3 melons were usually the jacket @ either £1-50 or £2.

(i.e a single fruit machine in the front bar of the Winchester pub)

I was happy to find when last in the UK that this is not uncommon!

Misspent youth indeed frank!!,we had them in the video arcades [pacman,williams defender,etc were all the rage back then],and also in the pool and snooker club in the town,from memory i believe some were simply called "nudge double deluxe".The machines would occasionly give you up to 10 nudges and the ability to read the reels knowing where certain fruits were on each reel was priceless!!

Two others that were popular at the time was Silver Ghost and Tupenny Nudger and there was a strange video fruity as well. This was by the by as I prefer the arcades.

My faves were and still are Phoenix, Amidar and Scramble and enjoyed Rally-X, Donkey Kong. Later on it was Last Duel which I played an awful lot in a back room of a sports shop when I should of been in college.

Strangest place I've seen one was Congo Bongo in the local timber shop in our village.
