Margaret Thatcher

She had a fair number of songs about her ...

The (English) Beat - Stand Down Margaret
The Chameleons - Singing Rule Britannia (While the Walls Close In)
The Deep Freeze Mice - I Vote Conservative (Because I'm In Love With You)

What else?

Kitchens Of Distinction - Margaret's Injection
Heaven 17 - We Don't Need This Fascist Groove Thang
Morrissey - Margaret On A Guillotine

Practically the entire post-punk movement was a revolt against Thatcher and the government's policies. Many new wave bands as well - The Specials, The Jam, The Clash, etc - were anti-Thatcher.

The list - Gang Of Four, Billy Bragg, The Smiths, The Beat, Madness...she was a polarising figure that inspired numerous protest songs during this time.

I think Blir wrote the lyrics (at least the chorus) to this one:

By all accounts her funeral is gonna cost the UK taxpayer as much as £10 million - in times of financial austerity in the UK when the hard pressed UK taxpayer is getting clobbered left, right and center by this farkin Tory government - this is a disgrace.

A private funeral, paid by her family [her son Mark Thatcher is estimated to be worth £50 to 60 million] or the tory party itself should have been good enough.

I personally think there should be a twenty-one gun send off for her.

After all it's always best to make sure.

yes.....i know the old notion of "you shouldnt speak ill of the dead" should apply in most cases - but she has to be a notable exception.

I do not know how you fared under thatcher, but for me
she caused widespread devastation in my community and family [5 members were miners, who all lost their jobs and 2 lost their homes],due to her vendetta against the miners and the evil agenda of wanting to crush the miners into the ground with little thought or compassion of the devastating effect it would have on those communities.

So you will have to excuse my less than charitable comments about her and the tory party.
