<br>Just to test the waters, were most of you guys alive at the time of the original releases of these? I don't think I'd have a chance.
If it helps, I was alive at the time of release for 17 of these songs, though they all came out before I started kindergarten.
Yeah, it helps. It helps to make me feel old. I was out of high school for all of these.

Honestly, I'm jealous! You got to spend 1982 experiencing all of this music as it came out and all the bands were around. To answer the question your username asks, I spent 1982 in a crib. By the time I discovered most of this music, it was "uncool" and lots of the bands were kaput.

For most of these, I guess I was just about into 7th-8th grade......but thinking back, I still think I missed out on the first few really good years, because I really started getting into it all around mid-1983.

15 had been killing me these last two weeks. Finally came to me! Like Xymox said, some bigger hits that weren't always easy to spot right away. Others a good mix of familiar songs. Thanks.

I'm digging this participation! Thanks, guys! There is currently a 3-way tie for first. No one has guessed songs #4 or #14 yet, so there's still room for someone to swoop in and claim the top. I'll accept entries through Sunday night, and post the results Monday or Tuesday, once I have a chance.

Nice one! For every obvious one or two there was a stumper. At least 3 of them I had no idea...not familiar in the least.

Completely agree - I thought I was a New Wave encyclopedia but two of the songs I never heard, and never even heard of the bands. Well done!

What a game! First of all, 15 people played, which is the highest number of responses I've ever gotten. Thank you, to each and every one of you!

This is my 11th Name That Tune, and the first one where I've had a tie for first. In this case, it's actually an incredible five-way tie! If we ever get all five of you in a room together, you could rule the world -- or at least clean up at an '80s trivia night.

The average score was 25.2 points. Here are the top ranks:

3rd place, with 26 points: Jefe and MikeP (tie)
2nd place, with 28 points: Jim2
1st place, with 36 points: wherewereuin82, eighties, Frau_Blucher, BigBri, and f650gsd (tie)

Most of the folks who got first place missed songs 4 and 14, but not everyone. The answers and overall tally are below:

01. The Swimming Pool Q's - Now I'm Talking About Now (5 got the artist; 5 got the song)
02. Simple Minds - Alive And Kicking (15 got the artist; 15 got the song)
03. Alphaville - Universal Daddy (10 got the artist; 10 got the song)
04. White Door - Love Breakdown (1 got the artist; 1 got the song)
05. Men Without Hats - Antarctica (10 got the artist; 9 got the song)
06. The Cars - Tonight She Comes (13 got the artist; 12 got the song)
07. Depeche Mode - Everything Counts (15 got the artist; 14 got the song)
08. Adam And The Ants - "Antmusic" (12 got the artist; 12 got the song)
09. The Psychedelic Furs - Sister Europe (7 got the artist; 7 got the song)
10. The Rezillos - Destination Venus (6 got the artist; 6 got the song)
11. The Suburbs - Rattle My Bones (6 got the artist; 6 got the song)
12. Big Country - In A Big Country (15 got the artist; 15 got the song)
13. Culture Club - Karma Chameleon (15 got the artist; 15 got the song)
14. Karla DeVito - Cool World (3 got the artist; 3 got the song)
15. The Monroes - Cheerio (4 got the artist; 4 got the song)
16. Dear Enemy - Computer One (5 got the artist; 5 got the song)
17. Duran Duran - Save A Prayer (15 got the artist; 15 got the song)
18. Devo - Mechanical Man (10 got the artist; 9 got the song)
19. Killing Joke - Eighties (14 got the artist; 14 got the song)
20. The Chameleons - Swamp Thing (10 got the artist; 10 got the song)

I also accepted "Jocko Homo" for #18, as the same intro plays before the song in Devo's documentary "The Complete Truth About De-Evolution."

Question -- one of the players wanted to guess the songs she'd missed after sending in her answers. Do you guys prefer learning all the songs when I e-mail you your score, or waiting until this round-up post?

This was tons of fun. Thanks again, everybody! Hopefully it won't be another 2.5 years before I make another one.

Not going to take a first, I'll slot myself between 1 and 2. In my cut and paste haste, I missed copying one song, one of the easiest ones, Swamp Thing. I liked this one, it was the only one, other than zill's, where I knew most of the songs [:)]

I'd like to have the chance to go back and add to my list if a song I missed finally comes to me.

I would recommend not sending the answers until the contest is over so that certain cheaters don't come back and say "Oh, ooh, this or that came to me later, and now I want to submit it because it 'came to me'."
