Yep. Not looking good. Who the hell picked Alan Rickman? I keep expecting him to say something like 'now I haf an electric guitar. Ho, ho, ho.'

Really seems very awful...I'm curious if there is any statement about the lesser known bands of this era like Shirts,Miamis,Tuff Darts or even Mumps-Lance Loud could be huge historically...

Here's the track listing for the soundtrack:

1. Life During Wartime (Talking Heads)
2. Kick Out The Jams - Uncensored Version (MC5)
3. Chatterbox (New York Dolls)
4. Soul Twist (Mink DeVille)
5. Careful (Television)
6. Blank Generation (Richard Hell & The Voidoids)
7. Slow Death (Flamin Groovies)
8. I Can t Stand It (The Velvet Underground)
9. Out Of Control (Wayne County & The Electric Chairs)
10. Psychotic Reaction (The Count Five)
11. All For The Love Of Rock N Roll - Live (Tuff Darts)
12. All By Myself (Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers)
13. California Sun - Original DEMO (The Dictators)
14. I Got Knocked Down But I ll Get Up (Joey Ramone)
15. Get Outa My Way (The Laughing Dogs)
16. Sunday Girl - 2013 Version (Blondie)
17. I Wanna Be Your Dog (The Stooges)
18. Sonic Reducer (Dead Boys)
19. Roxanne (The Police)
20. Birds And The Bees (Hilly Kristal)

Quite a sampling. I was expecting it to be heavy with multiple tracks of Blondie, Ramones and Talking Heads.

Amazing that there's a representation of Count Five and Velvet Underground.

Here's a short review from the Television mailing list:

"Just watched "CBGB" - great fun if nothing else, kind of a live-action
cartoon style. Predictibly it focuses on Blondie, La Smith and the Dead
Boys. However, Television do get the "Can we play in your club?" scene
and the first 2 'live' songs in the film - Careful and a bit of MM. And the Please Kill Me t - shirt makes an appearance even though Richard never wore it at CBGB. Rickman is, of course, excellent.
Needs another watch.

watched this movie.

there's a lot of name dropping in it.

and a few cameos of groups played by other people
(was fun seeing blondie, the police, etc).

otherwise it's a basic, 'punk for dummies' kind of movie.

an actual documentary would be much better,
like this 4 part series:
